Here are a few more pics, Solo Man removed the swirl flaps for me, disconnected the EGR, and I got it registered in my name.

I must say, this 530d beats my E39 540i I had in 2009, for the nicest car I ever had. The 540i was always on top of my list, but this 530d took first place on my list, for sure.

I had a guy at my house yesterday, he put his hand on the BMW's bootlid and said: This is not a car, its a machine

Stunning example

LCI's dont need to have their swirl flaps removed, but since you did , have you noticed any difference?

Swirlies were the same on Stiaan's car as mine (2006 pre LCI) Rather safe than sorry i always say! Must say, the EGR was so clean i only wiped it with a cloth. Could be because there was a new turbo put in about 80k kms ago and i assume new egr as well. Boost pipe also very clean as well as the inlet manifold. Have not seen such a clean manifold at the kms as Stiaan's car.

Lovely car. Having owned an E39, tell us what you like more about the E60 - also curious to hear the difference between the V8 and the diesel.

Same as in part numbers of same as in looked the same? My initial research was that the material used to make them was changed, but i could be wrong.

Any noticeable difference after removing though?

Sash, my memory not so good anymore but the swirl flaps for the E60's are a different type than the E39. The E39 was just a flap much like a butterfly flap in a carburettor and the E60's flaps are sort of square flap inside a nylon tube type of thing. What i do is i take out the complete flap and cut through the nylon tube thing as well as the flap shaft and when it is seperated i remove the rest of the shaft. I then take a brass 5mm bolt with a taper head, taper the nylon part of the old swirl flap on the side that goes into the manifold, put some epoxy on it to seal it and screw it through the hole where the shaft went through. Then i put a brass nut on, tighten it and use a hammer to flatten the screw protruding from the nut so that there is no way that the nut will come loose. Btw, i have a modified (swirl flaps removed) 3l d inlet manifold in my garage that is just taking up space. Would like to sell it so some one make me an offer?

I was under the same impression as Sash wrt the swirl flaps on the LCI being different in material etc and no need for concerns of them breaking/dropping in etc? Also interested to know if the performance altered?

I cannot speak for Stiaan but was fortunate in driving the car again this week. Am not sure if removing the swirl flaps make a difference to the performance but it makes a huge difference to one's peace of mind! I am very concerned about swirl flaps on a car. My neighbour across the street from me has a 2013 landrover Defender with a diesel engine and his swirl flaps went at about 32k kms (from what i understand from him - he had a stroke a few years back and has difficulty with his words/explaining stuff). Landrover replaced the engine.

Johan removed the towbar for me this week, and I had the idea of making the diffuser matt black, with plastidip, so if I dont like it, I can remove it I I dont like it.

What do you guys think, I like it a lot, looks "mean" to me?

I contemplated a while about doing the diffuser in black and the boot spoiler( in my case), but i could convince myself it would work on my car.

The black and white contrast looks good. Are you considering the boot spoiler? The AC rep one looks more aggressive than the M one.

This is the rear spoiler I have been thinking about as well. There are other brands that are the same in design which are a little more subtle that look great but as usual they are not available locally unless you do an import etc.....

I already started looking for a bootspoiler, but dont want a too agressive, I would like something like the thin spoilers you get for the E90's
