Decent enough deal considering what she's getting for the Jetta... But the N42 engine in the 318ti isn't exactly renown for its reliability...

They tend to have valve stem seal issues, which leads to some very heavy oil consumption and eventually necessitating a rebuild.

169k km is a bit touch-and-go... I'd say drive the car and watch carefully for blue smoke - especially when coasting the car down hill in-gear and then getting back on the throttle. If it doesn't puff smoke, it should be fine... if it does smoke, walk away and rather search for a 325ti.

I'm in agreement here. 2 of my buddies had the 318ti and had endless problems. One of my friends broke down and while waiting for assistance he was robbed of his belongings. The other guys, is sitting in the garage and not mobile at all..Major issues under the hood.

Okay, so mom bought the car

Safe to say she is absolutely loving it as it's the best car she's ever had. Coming from an 80's Jetta this must be one hell of an improvement for her, even if the car is known for some issues.

Thanks all for the input :ty:
