With the M4 being sold I needed something to replace it. Something with 4 doors and a more comfortable. Looked at a few options in the VAG stable, non of them impressed me much. I was considering a new X3 20d or the new 520d and almost ended up with the X3 but my heart wasnt in it. Considering that I have owned 2 N54's, S55 and a B58 the missing linked for me was the N55.
The best of the breed is the N55B30T0 powerplant found in the X4 M40i and the M2. None of them suited my needs. So the next best thing was the N55 EWG. The only real choices where the 335i, 435i Grand Coupe and the 535i. After looking for a while I found a 435i GC that had all the add ons I was looking for. M Sport, Professional Nav, Reverse camera. Just my luck it also had been equipped with a HUD.
The 4 Series GC feels very different from the 3 series. It's lower, wider and tighter. Still more comfortable than the M4 as expected.
So far I am enjoying the car, I just wish it wasn't so quite! The N55 feels closer to the B58 than the N54 IMO. It's can't match the stock power or fuel economy but its fairly decent. Round trips between Centurion and Sandton weekdays in serious traffic and I'm averaging 8.5l.
I have had the car for about 2 months now.
Alpine white looks exceptionally boring to me, so I set about adding a few OEM+ options. First up was the wheels. My all time favorite wheels are now the fitted. OEM Style 313. I added a M4 gloss black front grill. I also got a few Carbon pieces fitted. M Performance front lip, rear spoiler and diffuser. (thanks Firi)
As for performance mods, I have been collecting them but nothing has been fitted yet. So far I have a BMS intake, BMS stealth meth kit, Charge pipe, downpipe, cooler, dv+, Ngk spark plugs and a few other mods. I will probably fit them some time next year. Right now I'm not to concerned about going FBO. I'm busy contemplating if I should go big turbo or not. Doesn't seem like a good option when products like the Vargas N55 Game Changer dual ball bearing turbos are out there. So much less of a headache for 600whp. Time will tell...
