My first Porsche

Hi all,

After many years of Autotrader window shopping, I've managed to pick up my first Porsche - a 987 Cayman S.

The car belonged to a family friend, and for years I've been begging her to give me first option if she ever decides to upgrade. She's had it since 2016 and has maintained it exclusively with Porsche, with it's most recent service just last month. I took delivery in JHB on Friday and drove it to my house on the North Coast the following morning :)

I plan to keep it as a weekend car, will take it for a run maybe once or twice a week.

Its a 2008 Cayman S (Manual) in Meteor Gray Metallic.
91xxx kms
Not much in the way of extra's, although I cant complain, very happy so far :)

Tinkering with the idea of upgrading the exhaust at some stage, but may just get some better looking tail pipes for now..

Cheers!

Congrats, these are great and a lot of simple and cheap mods can easily update the interior/infotainment up to todays standard while still looking OE. Google about!

Congrats bud!
See many of these around lately and they are still a very good looking car...and they pretty solid so a choice well made!
Wish you many happy miles and smiles!

Congrats 🎉

These are excellent cars that should be driven daily (if your parking at work is safe).
Being a 2008, it could be either a 987.1 or 987.2.
The 987.1 has the dreaded IMS issue that you should replace when you do the clutch one time.

I would advise to daily drive it (as long as it's reasonable to do so), since garage queens tend to have lurking issues ;)

If you garage queening it, then keep the mileage below 99,999km. When you hit 100,000km, the Porsche discount comes in 😂
But, if you can get the IMS done, the future buyers would pay you more regardless of the mileage!

Yeah I did a LOT of research on the potential risks, IMS seems to be less of an issue on these (compared to a 996). It's definitely something I'll look into if/when I do the clutch.
