Update:
I viewed four 340i's and test drove two of them. The B58 engine is certainly a thrilling experience to drive with plenty of power. I didn't feel like it was enough for me to justify an additional +-R80k on another vehicle with plenty more mileage and the same look and feel to it, bearing in mind I've had my car from the time it's had less than 24k kms and jumping into another F30 with at least 55k kms and in some cases more than one previous owner. Also to my surprise, none of the 340is were specced as well as my 330d. Personally some of the not so deal breaking extras missing were for example heated seats, HK sound and electric towbar but ones with no nav, extended instruments cluster and larger display screen on the infotainment system would have definitely been a no.

I also viewed two S3's and got to test drive one of the sedans. It made me realize that maybe I'm not missing these cars as much as I thought..

With the above being said, ridiculous rise in fuel prices and me being in the process of property hunting in a new city, I've decided to hang on to the tractor. It's an excellent all rounder and I'm glad I viewed and felt the cars I was contemplating for a few months.

I needed to read this.

I am a total B58 obsessive-fan. I have toyed with the idea of a 340i a few times as well - purely for the engine. I really enjoy the F30 platform and package as a whole, and thought this would be gold.

Your review has given me comfort to just relax and keep the diesel daily. They are phenomenal cars.

Side note - your car looks perfect. So tastefully modded. Absolute head turner!

Thanks bud.

The B58 certainly is a great platform, especially if you want to mod. Personally, I wouldn't get it in the F30 if I had the choice and would rather opt for a M-lite or Supra if it is within budget.

Overdue update:
I get a lot of compliments on the color of the car but personally I'm not a fan of a red car on the daily and it always played on my mind to possibly wrap it.

Here are the results after having it wrapped about 2 months ago. It was done in Avery Dennsion material and the color I went with was satin dark basalt. Some other small touches include blacked out badges and red v-bars.

And so the wrap will be the last update on this thread and brings an end to my journey with the 330d...
At the end of the day my heart was still longing for something else and it won in the end. I have nothing negative to say about owning a 30d and will probably jump back into one in future. I hope this gem of a car lands in the hands of an owner who will appreciate it.

Indeed it is sad...
But after some very perplexed episodes on this thread as you have seen and contributed towards, I've finally pulled the trigger and joined the B58 gang. This has certainly taken away the sorrows of letting the 30d go
