My First BMW

Good morning bmwfanatics I recently bought 2011 X5 4.0d M Sport. The history from local dealer they told me only major that was done to it was propeller shaft that was a recall to that model.
Any way I drove her from Joburg to East London on one tank of which I was impressed:thumbs: till I drove her locally.:biglol:
1. I got the car at a relatively good price and it had 100k kilos displayed but last logged kilos were 139k in 2017 so what can I expect to change or look out for from 200k X5? :fencelook:
2. the car is clean inside and out no visible damages and engine sound is amazing and I have accumulated 3k already to her.
3. Only thing I noticed that was wrong or not working was the rain sensor of which the dealer promised to get me a new one.
4. service recently done with new disks and pads on the front not sure about the rest of what was done on the service.:skit:

Why would you buy a car when you know the odometer was turned back?

If they are unethical enough to turn the odometer back, who knows what else was/wasn’t done?

This thing probably has 200k+ km on, seeing as they went through the effort to turn it back.

Thank you for the responses though no one has really answered me but nevertheless let me just explain, after I bought the car then later had my discoveries and I settled for a deal with the dealer that I decided to keep the car or take it back and get my money back off course I kept the car mgwaiting:
Please that's not the issue for now I've been on that already weighed my risks.
Now as the first time owning BMW X5 4.0d what problems do those car normally have on above 200k kilos this is not gonna be a daily drive vehicle thank you

Basically, you were getting free advice to benefit you in the long run.. So many things could go wrong on a car with mileage that has been turned back (haircut), if you don't know the actual mileage, you won't know the actual service history.. See where this is going..?

Clearly this whole scenario doesn't bother you, so don't let the thought of costly turbos (2), injectors, cooling system and suspension components put you off.. If no-one really knows the actual mileage, difficult to say what you should expect.. Just keep cash handy and enjoy your purchase :tiptoe:

Friend of mine has 2015 F/L X5. After the service it was realized it has suspension issues and whole thing needs replacement. Under MP but they are hesitant to approve/pay, appr. R80k. So keep lot of dough handy mate... car looks good though.

you will bear the brunt of this decision in a year or two years time.

as murphy's law would have it ( these cars are heavy in electronics, from the hand brake all the way up ---- FSH really helps with these cars).

it's like having a car that is registered in 2012 but it's actually a 2011 model.

now imagine you know nothing (as in this case) and you ask for advise what could go wrong on your '12 335 (which will have a N55 motor) and get the correct advice, but in actual fact you have a N54 which is a total different scenario.


can't ask for the correct advice if the variables are unknown :dunnoanymore:
best would be to have it looked over from top to bottom and i guess scanned as well:thumbdo:

Zf is running a gearbox oil change service for R3k until end January. I suggest you book it as they can check gearbox parameters so u see where you stand with regards to your gearbox.

Ask them to do transfer box oil changes as well. My SO's x5 has 115k km's and the transfer box oil was dirty...like really dirty.

Then other than that, do the usual basics that are done when buying second hand car ie. Full engine service, suspension check, etc..

Take it for an inspection at the dealer or better yet an indy that will go through it with a fine tooth comb and then go from there...

I also agree with taking in for the ZF special.

Thank you all now i feel welcomed :thumbs: the car has been booked for a full inspection as the dealer promised to cover the expenses as they claim it was bought from auction as per the vin no the model is confirmed
