Hi Guys
So for some time, i have been researching some sound upgrades for my E90. As everyone knows, the stock system is k@k.
Something i noticed as well, is my car is a 2006 model with the Base Stereo, and when i sat in my friends car, which was a 2010 model 320d, with was also a Base stereo, there was a vast difference in the sound, his newer model was much much better sounding then mine with much better bass - This im not sure WHY???
Anyway, i did'nt want to splash out a lot of cash on a sound install, as im still not sure how long i will keep this car. So i decided to just upgrade the front door speakers and rear shelf speakers. At first i was not sure if this will work, as to the original head unit powering the newer speakers - will this be sufficient? But i took the chance anyway,as I spoke to Ferdibotha on another thread, and he said changing the front speakers made quite a difference.
Verdict:
Rear speakers - Lots of people said dont waste your time changing these, because of the low eq signal to the rears. But my own testing, by fading completely to the back, and listening before and after fitment, revealed that the new speakers made quite a difference, the old speaker sound was absolutely poor. I Still feel, an amplifier will be much better. But from stock speakers to these aftermarket, there is a significant difference.
Front Speakers - Big improvement in the mid and treble from the stock speakers. I am very happy(But i was kind off expecting this)
Overall : The sound in car, with regards to mid and treble, has picked up quite a bit, the sound is so much clearer and a pleasure to listen too. Only the bass, is quite still poor, but i didn't expect changing 4 inch speakers to increase my bass. For a more complete system, you will need bass drivers. For the price of the little upgrade, i am very happy thus far.
My Chosen Upgrade:

All three Speakers:
So the rear speakers - Flanges??? Because the bmw is a 3 hole flange and the Kicker is 4 holes, normally the guys on the net, either bend the one flanges or cut it right off, i chose to Cut it off and re-apply it to the proper place with Q-bond. In my planning stages, was not sure if this will work, but it did work out. Not sure how long the Q bond will last, as this was the first time i used it.
After Q Bond
Front speakers : I got some guys to cut me adapters from 3mm mild steel plate, i drilled the holes and then painted it to neaten it off:
Front mounted : I added cushioning everywhere, but you cant see it
Rear Mounted :
Thanks!!!
