Hey guys

Need your help on this problem that has sprung up in the last 2 weeks.

Well, while I was driving home the one night the car started jerking when i gave it gas like as if its not getting enough fuel or maybe its missing but it only done this below 2000rpm, but lately the car jerks all the way up to 4000rpm, the jerking is like there is not enough fuel or something is missing. Its like it has power then bogs up then power then bogs up

So last night on my way home I decided to give it a big of gas and took it all the way into the red just before the car cuts out, and the next thing the car sounded like I droped a cylinder and the car started to sound like a scooby lol but I had almost no power. I stopped the car and turned it back on and off and it was back to normal but still jerking like crazy..

GIZ I NEED YOUR HELP HERE BUD!

Coil packs would mean bogging up to redline, progressively getting worse. Sounds like a vacuum leak to me. Does it go well at wide open throttle? Could also be a MAF, give that a clean, as well as your EGR.

On wide open throttle is jerks all the way up until 3000rpm then its fine. But sometime when i hit govener the car has no power afterwards and sounds like a scooby lol

The jerking is getting worse and worse

What is the MAF and EGR

What is the MAF and EGR

MAF = Mass Air Flow meter.
EGR = exhaust gas recirculating valve (don't think it would cause your problem, but might as well give it a clean)

If it jerks all the way up to 3000rpm at wot, it could possibly be a coil pack/spark plug. and the scooby part mystifies me. Take it to a service center and ask one of the mechanics to just quickly have a look and describe the problem to him.

I'd say it sounds like a spark plug dying off. If one of those stops working it would certainly cause the scooby noise you're referring to.

dude.. my car does EXACTLY the same thing if I corner hard and then floor it out of the corner.
not always, only when I turn one way.. I think its fuel starvation on my side, or my fuel pump or something is going dodgy..

I dunno, must be fuel related I think. mine hardly EVER does it tho, only when the fuel is quite low and I drive hard..

Well i testing that fueling issue, I filled my car up, and drove to Nelspruit and had problems all the way

The 1st thing i thought about was the plugs or a coil, then maybe a fuel pump giving in.

But that scooby noise only happens when i take the car into the red, but when i switch the car on and off it goes away

Lamba censor or both on bank one and two.
Take it to BMW, let them do a diagnostic test on it.
It will cost you arround R500 for the test.
You can also let a BMW specialist test it for cheaper.
They can give you the failt codes recorded in the DME. or ECU.
But if the car run bad while you are running it smoothly or not heavy on the gas, it's lamba probes for sure.
Try it.

Go to Budler Motorsport, he will plug his diagnostics computer into it, find the fault, fix the fault for peanuts...

Jip anyone with diagnostics can do the job, but I dont trust Budler like I trust SAV.
Budler told me you can not recondition M54 engins but SAV does them all the time.???

do you run your car all the way into reserve all the time? or do you keep it above reserve most of the time? reason I am asking is because when you run your car into reserve it picks up all the shit at the bottom of the petrol tank which can clog up the fuel filter or worse can clog up fuel injectors.

I am thinking it could be an injector that is dirty and at low rpm when it isnt fueling as much its causing a bit of a drip instead of a fine spray but as you put ur foot down it comes out as a spray cause of the higher pressure on the fuel injector.

I don't know its a wierd problem and I had it on one of my very old cars a Golf II GTI and it turned out to be an injector.

Good luck I hope you sort it out soon man!

Driving hard or not hard, the fuel preasure stay the same in the fuel rail.....
it is regulated.
you can open the fuel tank from the right rear seat and remove the fuel pump, and also remove the fuel filter from the front left side behind the front wheel and blow it clean with air throught it.
dirt wount go to the injectors if you have a BMW pump and filter as both stop dirt going to the fuel rail.

I still say lamda censors.

The fuel is regulated at the rails then I guess but driving hard will make the fuel come out of the injectors faster than driving slower, if that wasnt the case then you would go through an entire tank of petrol in no time at all.

I don't have a clue what the problem may be but with my similar case it turned out to be an injector, and it doesnt necessarily need to be a solid piece of dirt that clogs up an injector, dirt from the fuel itself can form inside an injector over time and cause a bit of an iregularity causing a drip at low RPM.

Hopefully the Diagnostic computer can pick the problem up, if not then it could be quite a tedious task to try find the problem.

My 330i hyad the same problem, it was lamda probes.

oh and, fuel quantity from the injectors are regulated by the sice and time the injector stay open to inject, not preasure. Presure stay at 3bar. when car idle and when car operate at max RPM.

My car did the same thing and it was my lamdas!

@ Bimmer330.. Ill give you the freedom of speech!
I.M.O budler motor sport is the best and knowledgeable on BMW's around!

How many car has SAV built that got in any MSA top 10? none ive heard about! only record they ran was the 1km in his own car!

Budler built 10 cars in the 4 / 6 N/A and turbo MSA top 10s! And they never brake down!
On track people fear Budler cars! Coz they bring results!

I saw a silver E36 M3 SAVSPEED turbo at ODI ran a 12.8
Budler's one N/A build ran a 12.9 N/A 1550m above sea level!

SO my option is Budler coz he shows results! plus he gives advise when asked!
I phoned sav for a turbo manifold and anything you ask him is bring the car to me!

I must be honest Sav said the same to me, would give me no advice just bring the car to me and we can have a look at it! fekking annoying To be honest!

Sharp, but building race cars is one thing, servicing and maintaining them are another.
Yes SAV askes you to bring the car to him but do you want to know why?
Let me tel you.....
There are people and I know one who claims to have a SAV conversion on his E36 325 but he baught the manifold from SAV and did the conversion himself like his arsehole. The car broke down and now he is telling everybody SAV did the conversion.......?
Is this right? N O . I understand why SAV want t have the car for himself, simply to do it the right way.
If I make a BUDLER sticker and put on my car, and advise people that BUDLER have build my car and it brakes down, then people will think BUDLER's conversion is shit...Right?

The fact is that I phoned BUDLER and they told me you can not recondition a M54 motor.....but you can.
SAV does and TUNETEC does.
so BUDLER gave me the wrong story.
I know because when you turbocharge a motor, the right way, you replace the pistons, the rods, the bearings ext....
and to replace pistons, you have to rework the sleeves.

Thats all fair enough, but when I phoned sav speed I wanted advice on what he was going to do to my car for a fat R74k and I would like a bit of info on the phone before I track half way across the world to ask him the same question which ends up costing me half a tank of petrol instead of a 5min phone call.

If you want to convince somone to spend what could be a deposit on a small house then you should be a bit more convincing over the phone.
