Geez, am I not allowed to have an opinion?

NO! now sit in the corner :)

Just kidding, everyone is welcome to their opinions. Imagine how boring cars would be, if everyone liked the same look :)

I think its cool, but I would do the M stripe like just diagonally over the bonnet, almost like gizmo's sig pic, but a bit higher sothat some white of the bonnet still shows under the M stripe, that would look cool, maybe drop it a little on some BBS rims, a busy looking mag will look good on it... yeah ... hehe.

 Tony would turn over in his grave if he saw that...

Let me guess, you bought everything at MST... The wheels, fart-can exhaust, front fibreglass bumper and the dodgy riveted vents have to go...Besides that, it looks pretty good.
Sad to see limited edition BMWs get butchered up like this, Im not the only one who thinks so...

It is not what you say, it is how you say it!

I suppose everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

What shall I say guys, I am Guilty!!

I have biuld this car for the 1/4 mile and I wanted to make it as light as possible!

I have everything to take this car back to original and maybe I will do that one day after I have raced it a couple of times at Tarlton.

I even have the original 16 inch BBS rims.

Moer me for all you want, but this is what I had in mind when I bought the car.

This is a kick ass car.....especially for someone that is not in the tuner business.....this is an awesome achievement. Wish I had your skills....maybe I can pick your brain sometime on how to up the standard on my ride, starting with the replacement of the Catalytic Converter. Got a 2002 530i (E39). Problem is she is killing me on fuel costs. Everyone I speak to says the Cat needs to go. I just need to find someone that can do a 4 pipe conversion at the same time ....any ideas?

WOW guys, thanks for the response! To answer all of you questions. I am a chemical engineer and have never spray painted a thing in my life. Initially I got this panel beater to do the project for me. To say the least, I chased this guy away after just one week. I then decided to go and buy all the tools and do the work myself.

I have gone through a lot of trial and error and wasted a lot of money, especially on paint. Have painted the car and then took it all off a couple of times. R22K later, (just spend on paint), I was happy with the result. Today I can help myself with a spray gun, and I am proud of it!!

I have dyno'd the car and it pushed 292kw and 620nm at the wheels. Part of the second phase of my project is to install a 100HP nitrous kit for just in case.

The engine in this car ran for close to six years without any major problems. From what I have heard, It blew head gasket once. I however decided to rebuild the engine. On opening the engine, I found all the ring glands to be cracked and I know why. I had an excursion with a Suzuki TL 1000 one night and I dettonated slightly. I now have to replace all the pistons. The TL lost the race by the way!!

Other extras on the car is as follows.
Angel eye's
18" Merit racing wheels with 225 rubber
Bilstein suspension
Upgraded brake system
Evo Racing seats with Evo racing harnasses
38 lt fuel cell with HP fuel pumps
TNT Exhaust
100mm F1X tailpiece

I do have a video clip somewhere. Will look for it and post it.

Thanks and regards

If I can add my 5c worth........

I'd be interested to know where you got the information about the "120 lightweight 535's" being built. I have done quite a bit of research on e12 BMW's when I bought mine, and when I was tracing a 530mle. All the information I have come across in that time is that the ONLY lightweight 5's ever built were built in SA and were 530's built in 1976.

Two original racecars were built by a BMW AG / Schnitzer / BMW SA collaboration to race in the then "Star Newspaper" series at Kyalami. In order to homolgate them, 100 road cars had to be built and sold, which BMW SA did. They sold so well, that another 100 or so were built and I think the grand total of 204 road going 530mle's were built. All of this in 1976. The jury is also out on how the cars were actually lightened. It is common knowledge that holes were drilled all over the car and the term "swiss cheese" has been used many times to describe the cars. It has never been verified though that the cars were actually pressed out of thinner gauge steel and there were no ally panels used.

Having said that, it is more likely that this may be Tony Viana's ex race car and that they lightened it in the same fashion - removing plates and drilling holes. It is highly unlikely that it is a lightweight version in the true sense. I may be wrong, but anyway - you are still building an awesome car!!

If it IS Tony Viana's ex race car it will have been homolgated by the FIA and you have a very rare and expensive car in your possession.

if i may ask a stupid question...who the hell is tony viana?

Tony Viana was a Group N racing driver back in the days. 80's/ 90's I think. Think he died of cancer a few years ago.

I remember him in his 325is when they took on the Opels back in the days.

Not sure what other classes he raced in, but I do recall somewhere that he had a turn in a 745i as well. (I stand corrected)
