I'm going to go look at it and see if I can bargain with him. Luckily now I have the financial means to sort it out slowly but surely. This car to me is like the story of the soldier going off to war and his love running next to the train, they don't see each other for years but still yearn for each other, and then one day they're reunited. I've decided I'm going to get my 333i back.

I take my hat off to you  A true BMW and E30 fanatic. All the best, and if you do decide to do it, you know that you will have to have a comprehensive thread on the resurrection of an South African icon

I bet you don't. I would kill for that car. Let me know when you are in the PTA region and we can hook up. In what area are you ?

So I went and took a look at the old girl.....shew,was heartbreaking to see it like that. It's not in a good state at all,but the current owner does have a lot of bits and pieces for it. We talked about the car and what it was like when I had it, vastly different from the state he got it in,seems the guy after me really went to town on selling the Alpina rims, think the Alpina manifold is gone, pretty much everything worthwhile in it. Still has the original radiator though....:roflol:

So we discussed the possibility of me buying it back from him including all the bits and pieces, which includes a rebored engine to 3.7L on the pistons, the head,a new ECU and some other stuff, but there is lots missing from it. I spoke to my boss (aka my wife) and she is not comfortable with the idea of me buying it back, for a whole multitude of reasons I won't go into here. But, she did say that I could now actively look for a classic Bimmer, something along the lines of E23 7 series (maybe a 735i?), an E12 or E28 5 series (E12 I am thinking 528,535, M535 or, if I can find one a 530, in E28 528i, 535i or M535i) or an E24 6. So now I am in a quandry, take the plunge and repurchase the 333i or look at something else. If I get one of the cars previously mentioned, it must be A) running and B) have ALL the paperwork. The 333 has a LOT of history, not all of it good.... and I now have permission to get me a classic, which I don't want to ruin by taking a chance on the 333. Any thoughts, advice?

im not a "bm fanatic" as are the boys on the forum,

but i will say the logical answer for me would be go look for the classic car of your dreams, you had the car enjoyed it looked after it and was your pride and joy, now on to the next project/toy.

I owned a toyota starlet 3 years back. loved the car still do miss that car, but if i had the chance to buy it back i doubt i would.

but in the end its your choice hay good luck it is a hard choice to make

I think it would be a better idea to find a 333i in a better condition, at least with the one in better condition with all its parts you will get to enjoy it much sooner. I've owned one and I know exactly how you feeling now.

The wait to find a better example very much out-weighs the headaches you gonna get from this one.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback so far,I am tending towards just finding another classic Bimmer that is needing some work. As much as I love the 333 I had and am attached to it, I fear it may be a bridge too far. So the search begins for something that will fill the gap. Just very sad I couldn't help the old girl.

I agree. Rather get a car with ALL paperwork in order and then restore, than sitting with a car where not all is in order admin wise and in the end, you spend a lot of time, effort and money just to have a small thing with the paperwork ruin it and the car is maybe confiscated :nonono:

P.S. PM me if you do decide to go to the ice cream meet.

Yeah, that's what I am tending towards. I usually don't listen to my wife because it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, but the fact that she has given me her blessing to find another classic kinda means I don't want to bite the hand that feeds me,even though I do all the cooking...:biglol:

But yeah, I don't want to go through the whole schlep of repairing and rebuilding and then have the car taken away or not mine for whatever reason, and then I get into k@k with the law. The guy who has it now is a very cool dude and I think he has the right idea about it,and as much as I would LOVE to get my hands back on it,I think it may be time to say my farewells and move on. I suppose it was that wondering what happened to it that kept me going, but now that I know it's with an enthusiast, I can relax. Being the kinda guy he is,he would probably let me see it from time to time during his rebuild process, which I am cool with.

So then guys, what do I get as my project car? I don't particularly want an E30.

Kobus, I will let you know. I have dinner plans for tomorrow night with the missus and some mates, so not sure what time that will end. Will slip it by her and she what she says :fencelook:, may bring some RS4's with me....:roflol:

Guys, these were the pics I snapped of the 333, and you can see why I think it may be a bridge too far for me

It was actually worse than the pics show.
