Hi I'm Yusuf, recently joined. Looks very smart. Can you please share with me Gizmos contacts please. I would like to get his opinion on an issue I am having with my BM.

Been a (long) while since I posted in here.

Since then I've had the car paint corrected. I know literally 0 about car paint protection, but I think it did turn out nicely, these are cellphone camera shots that I took. It feels smooth and quality to the touch so I'm pretty happy. Work was done by auto velvet, a couple of guys from CPT trying to set themselves up. They're working out of their garage, so it isn't some high end place. But the price was decent and the work seems good. The say this ceramic coat lasts 5yrs, I suspect if it pulls through for even half of that it'll be good.

Going forward I'm sorting out the long term niggles the car has had given that I have a lot more cash now than when I first got the car. Next up is to sort the interior, I'm not sure whether to go with a wrap or a hydrodip. If anyone has a place they trust in CPT I can contact, please drop a number I can call. Would like to just get it all wrapped, most likely in some carbon look. Might then also do the kidney grilles in a similar sort of covering/dip just to have a consistent carbon style on it.

After that I'll probably be listing the car for sale in the next few months. I drive it very seldom now, it pretty much goes out every 2nd/3rd week for a little 100-200km drive to a few wine farms and back. Since Feb I've done around 1700km or so.

All in all, looking back now having had the car for a fair period I think these are really quite special. I'm yet to drive or even sit in anything that makes you feel the way this car does, from an acceleration and steering feel perspective. I'll post a proper "FOR SALE" when the time comes :)

Some obligatory pics:

Thread revival! Haha, yeah, it's bedded in nicely now and is a lot nicer to hold and touch.

Still enjoying it, actually just back from a late night drive now. It remains a special car, the sound and the general driving sensation of rawness and maybe even at touch of violence is just visceral and exciting.

I can't see myself letting it go, any time soon at least.

my thoughts exactly, they really are special cars.

Don’t add carbon. It will look ricey! The next owner looking to buy a car like this has a standard car in his mind (mostly)

The reason I like the idea of just a wrap is that they can remove and have the stock stuff below. And of course it'll cover the pitting in the metal that is there currently (and I assume it's a bit cheaper than doing it all in leather!)

Ive had both Vinyl and Alcantara, the Vinyl is best bang for buck, looks good and a fraction of the cost than alcantara. especially  if a good quality vinyl like KNS used when they did mine, was nice and thick and looked perfect after 2 years, when I traded in the car I asked the salesman if I should remove it and he said no I should leave it.

I'm assuming you're based in JHB? :(

No CPT suggestions for a place that can wrap interior in CPT? I saw that dutchmanns car clinic at the archive does it. But they didn't return my call...

If you can source good quality vinyl wrap, you can try and DIY. it isn't too difficult , you just need a heat gun and a squeegee.

Haven't posted here for a while so some post-detail pics are needed. The interior *still* hasn't been sorted, more out of my laziness than anything else. I also can't quite stomach what dutchmann's quoted to do a simple wrap of 3 components...

Going forward I'd like to maybe wrap the roof a straight black, get a new gearknob and then finally do the interior wrap I've been threatening to do for like 3 years. That aside the rims are a bit tired, just stone chips and the like after near 4 years of use. I'd love to get a new set of rims for a change, but good quality rims remain outrageously expensive and I do still like the look of the OEM rims more than any other (I must be the only person who prefers OEMs to CSLs!). haha. Car still drives like a dream when I take it out (about once a week these days, generally a winelands trip).

Some updates on this (now nearly 2 yr old!) thread.

Have gotten the centre console (the metallic area around the gearknob/hand brake) covered in leather (should hide the pitting) and the ZHP gearknob as well. Finally got all the damaged plastic touchpoints (on the steering/window switches etc.) resprayed.

Should be ready early next week and will post pics of (hopefully) good quality work!

As promised! Short drive home after work (left early to collect the car), throw on the ZHP knob definitely will take some getting used to (and some *very* careful 2-3 shifts to not shove it into 1st!).

Centre stack was an IMMENSE mission, started with me calling around to get it wrapped (as we discussed above), eventually that didn't work out so I ordered (and was compelled to pay for) the part new from BMW CT (around R2200), only to be informed 2 weeks later (after I called to follow up on what was taking so long) that it was NLA...

Sigh. The wrap guys at the archive (apparently pretty good wrap guys?) quoted me R1500 and were confident that the pitting would show through the wrap, at R1500 I wasn't willing to spend that and then potentially end up with a part wrapped but still looking as it originally had (the whole point was to *NOT* see the pitting). So, off to Dinesh to get a quote and see what he thought of it in leather. R850 later and it now is in the car. There is some creasing, as you'd expect, but hopefully it holds up ok. The car has ticked past 150 000km as well. As far as fixes/mods on the interior that'll be it for me. In an ideal world I'd get a brand new steering wheel, but I'm not that stoked about dropping R10ish k on a new one for a car that I don't intend on keeping forever...

While this was happening I also decided to get the worst of the plastic bits resprayed (some around the steering wheel, some on the centre area, window switches and door handles - sprayed these from silver to black).

The entire interior is a bit sombre now - even more so as the ZHP isn't a light up gearknob. But I do like the leather in the middle and am quite happy with how it all turned out, pics:

*FINAL UPDATE* The car is gone now, off to a new home.

I hope it lives happily forward and is used and enjoyed. This is a car that enjoys being driven and that feels good when it's going :) To the new owner, I wish you luck and to enjoy it every time you hop behind the wheel - frequently I hope!!!
