Howsit guys

So my plan was to change both my tensioner as well as idler pulleys and the belt, becuase at cold starts in the mornings there is a bit of a squeal until the car warms up, now tonight it seems that my power steering pump is giving in because it is making one hell of a racket when i turn the wheel. ATF fluid level still seems ok which leads me to think that the pump is shot

I had this on my 525 E39 2002....it was the power steering rack! cost a small fortune to replace that piece of equipment and they had to drop the whole front suspension to get it out!!

It was making a bit of a trumpet sound! but effing Loud!

E46 power steering pumps do become noisy and do fail. But when last was the power steering fluid flushed? When I bought my Wife's car the power steering was quite noisy (same age and mileage as your car, even the same colour), flushed the fluid and has been quieter ever since. Not perfect, and something I will have to replace at some point, but I reckon still plenty of life in it! I would think a worn steering rack would produce more of an issue relating to play etc.

Na steering rack gave me no issues other than one hell of a loud effed up noise that was so embarrassing i had to duck my head while driving!! It felt normal! that's why it was so hard to diagnose the problem in the first place!

my power steering still works fine its just a hell of a noise, kinda like my tyres rubbing against something.

Yes as I said mine was exactly the same, nothing wrong with the power steering itself but it made a very loud noise!!
