This is the next step, collected my car yesterdday, taking it back next week when they have a loaner for me, they have no idea what next.

They are very helpfull, but they will start with injectors.

Can anyone with a stock 335 confirm if the first minute or so has an uneven/slight misfire on a cold startup? They claim it's the CATS warming up, this is total BS (my car is doing this for only 2 weeks now). When I start my car (cold), the one exhaust seems to be closed and after a minute or so the car idles differently and the second pipe starts pushing out steam. It's always done this, but now with a rough idle/misfire untill the motor picks up some temp

all cars have cat warm up procedures now days i really dont think they will make it sound rough on start up...

the CAT warmup procedure is normal, you will clearly hear a difference in exhaust note which subsides after a few seconds. rough idle is a definite no.

I had same issue with my car but it was due to swapped O2 sensor cables. Mods you know:idea:

I dont agree with their view: Can anyone with a stock 335 confirm if the first minute or so has an uneven/slight misfire on a cold startup? They claim it's the CATS warming up, this is total BS (my car is doing this for only 2 weeks now).

I agree: When I start my car (cold), the one exhaust seems to be closed and after a minute or so the car idles differently and the second pipe starts pushing out steam. It's always done this, but now with a rough idle/misfire untill the motor picks up some temp

HOWEVER: All turbo cars on start up or when at idle will sometimes have the sensations of "misfiring". Its a difficult thing to describe: when you sitting inside the cabin you will "feel" it. But when you outside the car listening to the exhaust you wont hear it. Its a feeling/sensation. Its like a tubulence effect going through the exhaust. But a real misfire you will (hear) when outside listening to the exhaust.

Interestingly enough I have not felt this "misfire" sensation with a diesel car. But in a GTR & Scooby definitely. You just know you starting up a turbo fed car.

Was your car smoking on startup, giving off a heavy fuel smell?

No nothing, but I can hear the misfire when outside of the car

I think that's normal, mine also sounded like there was a misfire and then it would settle after a few minutes but the symptoms I had now was quite bad with smoking and a heavy fuel smell. My car was definitely not firing on all cylinders.I haven't received my car back yet,the service advisor said maybe this afternoon. Will let you know of the outcome.

Smoking and fuel smell...what the hell. Keep us updated Fayz.

I think the smoke was due to unburnt fuel.By the way I only use Engen fuel in my cars due to the FNB ebucks rewards that you get.

BMW Menlyn did explain that they think it might be an injector leaking, so over night it could over fuel one cylinder, hence the misfire the first couple of minutes, but that explains your symtoms, not mine. They had a N54 135 some weeks ago with my symptoms, and this was also the case (leaking injector). Please let me know if you know what your problem was, my car is going in from Wednesday and will only collect if/when fixed.

mine did that on 30k , also no error codes when they checked, they ended up replacing all 6 injectors before the problem was solved.
and they only replace 1 rail at a time so my car had to go back twice but now is sorted....... touch wood....

Strange that the dealerships take days to swop out injectors :nonono:
Sure they have to do some coding after the install but cant take more than a couple of hours.

Glad i can atleast do the plugs and coils myself
