I know the feeling.
A few years ago, I was driving my turbocharged 3sgte powered bantam bakkie from the mech on the N12.
Suddenly at 160km/h , flames were seen from the engine bay. I pulled off, grabbed my food and ran. ( I was fasting and it was almost time to break fast )
A few taxis stopped , forced the bonnet open , since we could not reach the bonnet release because of the heat. they used fire extinguishers , which didnt kill the flames. Eventually sand was used to kill all the flames.
Lots of damage , all the wires, fuel lines , brake booster , winscreen , bonnet etc etc
I suspect it was a fuel leak .
