As for mods...well, I'm still learning how to control this car, and understand where the optimal rev ranges are, and any limitations therein. It's quite a humbling experience but exciting. Fuel economy is over the roof haha (in the 10's), as I'm still learning the car, and have only been doing this in urban areas. I'm not bothered with saving fuel though, not for now at least; too much fun to be had. Want to ensure she's in proper mechanical condition before starting any mods. It is tempting though, and have to restrain myself quite a bit.

Hey gents, if i may hijack the thread. Would this; 320d/330d be an ideal buy if one travels appr. 10 000km/year, more as a weekender, any impact on oil and others parts not being utilized optimally....thinking of getting one before Dec.

No problem at all when doing that mileage.

Bought mine on 74 500km in Feb 2017 and it's currently on 102 000km.

I service at least once annually which normally means doing it at 5000-7500km intervals.

The car is mechanically sound, so no harm done by not driving it daily.

My car has the media hard drive/storage. I was importing around 5gb of songs (most of my current collection) and it is taking very long, such that I have to restart the import whenever I start the car i.e. it never completes before reaching a destination.

Wondering if doing this again (importing from the USB) only copies songs that have not been imported as yet, that is, songs are not duplicated? Is the import system smart or efficient enough to allow for this?

I have the same issue on my e90 330i when using the usb port in the cubbyhole. Cannot upload from the armrest. But uploading from a cd takes about two minutes..

Not an expert here but it could also be fault with the actual hard drive/storage

This is probably because the tech in there is now ancient, and we just aren't used to waiting for things to load anymore... Try copying 5GB to any hard drive designed more than 10 years ago and I doubt it would be any faster  :smilebounce:

So it's been 9 months... and I'm left with a feeling of satiety and joy with this car.

Have serviced it recently. No issues, other than brake pads or discs.

First up, Alex is an awesome guy whose passion shows in his work and interaction in his work. He also goes the extra mile at all times. Can't recommend these blokes enough.

Took her in on a very chilly Saturday, followed by my bro. Was received by Clive, another top guy, who gave us some good advice and tips for our journey ahead, and who stored the vehicle thereafter.

Pic after dropping her off (back entrance...after going there twice, I still couldn't find the main entrance! Either excitement blurs the vision or I was just a dumba*s lol) :


From Monday onwards, the following was done:
- Alex took the car to ZF to get the gearbox checked out. Outcomes were that clutch E is out of spec, and hence a service wasn't recommended. However, the gearbox is in overall good nick and able to receive from Mad treatment. ZF also advised it was healthy enough to run for another 40000km or so.

- Dyno was performed

- Madness Downpipe built and fitted

- Another dyno was performed (at the same place).

So Alex that skelm already set up and configured the file, 1hr before I was going to fetch the car, which he informed of very casually. I just needed to give him the go-ahead to proceed. My intention was just to do a downpipe and check the health of the car. But, after several long minutes, I decided to pull the trigger and do the the map as well, seeing that all was ready.

Results are shown below.

Car feels absolutely mental!!!
Traction is a miracle when flooring hard on take off, so learning how to drive this again. In gear acceleration was already great, but now this thing pulls proper and hard, and so easily too. The decrease in the dyno time to 150km/h was substantial at almost 1.4sec. This can be felt.

The power and torque really feels overwhelming at times. I was in 2 minds whether to reduce it a bit especially during the first day. I'm not a serial drag racer or TLGP guy, so don't really need this type of performance. But the more I drive it, the better it becomes! Consumption seems good for now, drove it from OR Tambo yesterday to Woodmead, and the consumption was at 5.1l/100km. However, my wife used to get 6.2l/100km when she drove it to the hospital from Morningside to Tembisa. And that involved traffic, and spirited overtaking when required. So, waiting for her to take it to work and will then have an idea of the change in consumption.

But yeah, this thing is crazy. But it's also very easy to drive normally which can be done in comfort mode.

Here are the dyno graphs. The dynos were all done at COLAB. Graphs show stock + dp and stock + dp + software. The start of the Rev range is lower for the software line as the dyno guy needed to ease the acceleration a bit as the car was losing traction on the rollers (a few guys had to sit on the boot while it was being dyno'd to reduce traction).
