Ja nee, maar miskien het hy daarvan gehou om kaalgat (praat van gat trek!) op daardie seats te sit en rondry!! :mmm:

You however have a very valid point! Doesnt make sense at all!

Hey zaleonardz, just my own childhood experience of the E28...

My uncle still has my late dad's E28 528i. Its light metallic blue with navy blue cloth interior.

This was our "Sunday car", while my dad was still specialising and studying, we had it sinse 1982/83, can't remember. Later on my dad sourced a 5 speed and I helped him put it in when I was 8 or 9 years old. Then, later on, only in 1998 he built his own 3.5l engine. Balanced everything and lightened everything. I cannot recall what cam he had put in, but it idled like a racing car!

According to the dyno, it had about 150kw on the wheels. It made for a lot of fun drives in the wet, but even so in the dry. We had the original 530 (The white E28's with the M-colour lines in the side) BBS rims on this, because my dad had one of those before he bought the 528i.

As a kid I always played with the ventilation controls (The fan switch around the digital clock in the centre) etc.

My dad loved that car! He had my 540i manual, an E39 M5, a Ford Sapphire Cosworth, a Monza CD 16V, an Uno Turbo to drive with every day, but be used the E28 to go to work every day!!!

Those 4 button configuration for the electric seats always facinated me when I was really young.

We had the same color, and that oldsk00l chrome...

Sounds like your dad had really fantastic taste, and seeing your 540iM, I can only imagine what condition those cars were in

Just visited Triangle Transmissions. They quote me R 1 200,00 plus VAT for an oil and filter change.

Gonna give it a try and see what it does.

I am in two minds whether or not to have the oil and filter changed. Fair enough it's only R1 368,00, but if it doesn't solve the problem, then it is R 1 368,00 wasted that I could have used towards a 2nd hand box.

Eish. Can't make my mind up.

Jandre, that is insanely cheap man.

I paid just short of 800 just for the OEM filter from BMW.

And I can promise you that they are not using OEM oil, cause the OEM oil is like R1,000 a litre or something, however that is not a bad thing, plenty of other cheaper oils that are higher rated then the Shell LA 2632, which is the manuf. recommendation.

Yea, its R1400 bucks gone, but its perhaps a gamble, and I would say if the whine is intermittend, you may still have a chance.

That said, the gearbox does have 240+ on it... so its a gamble, but it is not that expensive, and then at least you will know, also, buying a scrapyard box is also a massive risk, you dont know what you are buying..
