there is a 535i Manual on autotrader going for 29K..
they are very rare, only 200 built in SA.. if I was you James, I would GRAB IT QUICKLY.. lol
its very similar to the E34 M5, M5 used same motor only 3.6 or 3.8 litre.. and those things make CHRONIC horsepower when turbo'd..

What is it about these E34 540's?

I havn't driven my E39 for two weeks, been driving the E34 despite the fact the E39 has every available extra and uses less fuel..

Glad to see I'm not the only one here who actually likes driving the older car.

@james. 25k for a 525i is average money. Make sure it is decent. Funny enough, the 525i's sell for more money than the majority of 540i's.

I saw a good looking 530i with low mileage on the gum for 30k. I also saw a very good looking 535i (also manual)from a dealer for 29k odd.

@Rick540, I told LZ that the 540 has somewhat of a grin factor to it. I just took mine down to the mechanics today but that V8 rumble is addictive.

I find my E34 slightly uncomfortable... its its defence though, I am comparing it to a E65, but would love to know if the E39 comforts would work...

Quick update.

Just came back from Auto Performance Motors. The oil change on the engine and the coolant change has been done. They took the car for a drive, and according to them, it is one of the nicest and strongest e34 540i's that has been through their workshop.

Will now look for the oil leak, and then decide on the transmission.

Good news so far.
