Don't forget the stock airbox.

When you see red hoses in 6months time you going to cry, or anytime a dirty hand touches them...These colours are used for non bmw show and shine competition stuff or exhibition. Their colours dull really quickly and they stain really easy. Always bet on black hoses! Besides, you restoring a classic bmw, not a supra.

I see the point in changing them. Very true. But with all the rooi liggies, suppose its not over kill. Just my opinion. :fencelook: It is a classic though.

FINALLY manged to find the correct hub so I could install new steering wheel!! :rollsmile::rollsmile::rollsmile:

My injector refurb kit arrived so replaced all the seals and filters.

Painted the injector rail:

Then my alternator packed up and had to get new battery, installed new voltage regulator as the old one was stuffed.

Did not fix the problem so had to take car to auto electrician, waiting on the diagnosis.

Had to get the alternator reconditioned, new plates new bearings.

Had my aircon pump belt installed and pump tested. Getting it gassed toddy, holding thumbs for no leaks.

Tore a water pipe this week so have been replacing those.[/align]

I have not updated in a while but have been very busy:

Finally managed to get rid of all the error lights on the car: :clapper:

Replaced the fender blinker with a new smoked on:

Replaced the front head lights with new smoked one from a MK2 Golf. This was a massive pain as I had to cut the VW brackets and the grill to make them fit!!! Had to make brackets to fit the VW bracket to the BMW bracket. Painted it all black so it would look nice. This was quite a few days work for me with my very limited skill and tools, but it came out really good and I am very happy that I can now finally see in the dark.

Exhaust had a big hole in it so I replaced it partially at powerflow, they also removed the towbar for me.

Had the seats redone with new leather and foam, all the plastic bits have been re-sprayed and the badges have been refurbed. Black leather with red double stitch. The car smells brand new now.

Headliner was redone in black material:

I have also now finally replaced all the water hoses.

So my very very long list of to-do's are at least slowly getting shorter.

This is an epic epic revival in such a short space of time. Really really impressive. So nice to see an E28 getting this love, too many of them are just wasting away.

Couple of questions if you don't mind. The front suspension parts, how much did you pay for all of them and who did you get them from?

Who redid your seats for you? And at what cost?

How much did the alternator refurbishment cost you and who did it?

Sorry for all the questions, these are things I need to do on my 535i. So any info would be appreciated! :thumbs:

Power is off here so i have to reply from my phone.

Suspension parts where about 5k for parts. The guys from Midrand auto spares sourced the parts from multiple places for me. They are very helpful.

The seats were done by a friends dad. It was about 8k for seats, headliner and gear boot. I think they did a great job. He is out in Roodepoort. I can put you in contact with them. Pm me for the number.

I paid 2k for alternator. Bu i think i got off cheap as they got things confused and did the work without quoting me first. I would not recommend them as they are difficult to deal with. I now know of a guy who can get it done for you in Boksburg. He did all the sound, alarm and aircon work on my car and i would highly recommend him.

I would love to see your car some time. I am a very big e28 fan.

Thanks so much for the information! Greatly appreciated. My car is in Cape Town unfortunately, and needs a fair bit of work. Between that and my e24 they keeping me very busy! The e24 is in good hands now which will allow me to start spending time on my e28. I've got a thread going somewhere with my e24 and pics of my e28 in it. Think its called genuine barn find. Have a look. You'll see my e28 and e24 together. I'll drop you a pm for the info!

Thanks man! Ya it's been a case of trying to get my e24 back to good running order. It's with a good mech now so it's in the stages of getting sorted properly. That was always going to be an unrestored barn find.

Your e28 is stunning. I'm so glad to see one being taken good care of. Interesting to note that yours as the updated on board computer next to the instruments. There so rare because they basically only had a two year production run in SA before we got the e34, despite us having the e12/8 from about 83 or 84 iirc. The plan is to get my e28 back to a more stock level. But I have a lot of work ahead of me.

You should be extremely proud of what you've achieved, especially in such a short space of time :thumbs:

Finally got around to replacing the bonnet heat shield. It was a bitch to do!!! The old one was basically just powder on top of the glue and the glue was a nightmare to get off. The whole thing took about 4 hours to do start to finish and the wife did allot of the work.

Bought it in sheets and cut it to size. Was R300 for the box and only ended up using half. It is thicker and stiffer than the oem one. But it is a bitch to cut. If you look close you can see it was cut by hand.

Honestly, for R300 I would he happy with what you've done. And I don't think anyone is going to pay particular attention to whether it's been done by hand or oem. It looks great and you've got a top result.

I'd love to come see this car sometime. Get some inspiration!
