Music options in E90

Hi guys

I need some help please. Been doing some reading and need opinions on the best option for music in my wagon.

So firstly its a 2010 E90 LCI with the Exclusive pack so has the Aux and USB in the armrest, as well as the phone snap in thingy.

WHat is the best option for me to get tunes. I have an iPhone 5 which ideally i would want to use.

I want to play music, use steering controls, and charge phone.

Currently i'm using a USB stick. Which is ok I guess.

Options I have been thinking about.
1)iPhone plugged in via white usb cable; this doesnt seem to work. Is there a software update I can do to get it working like the newer models?

2)BMW Y cable to 30 pin adapter then Apple 30 pin to lightning adapter. Well this is pretty expensive and just seems inelegant to me.

3)BMW Y cable for Android/Blackberry with the micro usb to lightning adapter, I prefer this to II as it gives me more future options of phones. I will never need 30 pin but may need micro-usb. Does this exist and does it work?

4)BMW Snap in Adapter, can you get these for iPhone 5 yet? seems to be mixed info. Also this looks pretty expensive. But perhaps neatest solution?

I've been using one with the 30 pin to lightning adapter for six months with no issues.
It is not exactly like the one in the link but I still only paid R75 for it. I ordered one of the ones in the link for my uncle so can test when it arrives.

Was using an iPhone 4, now using an iPhone 5 with the 30 pin to lightning adapter

Sorry missed that bit where you mentioned the lightning adapter

and you can change everything from the steering wheel still?

I don't have the USB port in the car, so USB does charging with a cig lighter USB adapter and the mini jack goes to the aux.

Not yet, they only do normal post...

Hi. No luck for me either. '08 e90 exclusive with usb and bt.
I cannot get music out of my iPhone5 via usb or bluetooth. Only via aux.
I've given up and bought a 32Gb micro flash drive which is always plugged in (coz its too small and I can't grip it to pull it out!!)
Steering wheel controls everything from usb to programmed tel nrs on the head unit.

One would think that a simple soft update would fix all this and I hope one comes along. Pls BMW, do it for us.

Ah, thats what i'm afraid of.

From what I have read only some Y cables do the whole steering wheel control bit. Without that I'd rather stick to a USB stick.

Tried China Mall near me, nothing. Nor Cavendish Square. Ideally i'd like to test and be able to return if it doesn't work.

Might try and find a phone snap in adapter cheap. Edit: haha at myself on this, no such thing as cheap.

Hi guys

I have a 2008 330d which only has the mini jack not the usb.
Will the y cable work for me?
Tell me if I understand correctly, the one end of the cable plugs into the iphone, then it splits into a mini jack which goes into the aux and then the usb goes into the cig port?
And this should give me control from the steering wheel?
