Murphy's Law - Boot not opening

So I got a buyer on my car and yesterday the boot decide it would not open by pressing the button's on the key (incl Spare key).

Try opening the boot from inside the car (boot release on drivers side) and from outside (on the boot lid) and nothing happens. I am able to manually open the boot though with the hidden key so the lock seems fine,it's just not opening when using the electronic methods. I also checked the boot lock sliding switch that sits in the cubby and it's positioned to 'unlocked'.

Central locking of the doors work perfectly fine as I believe it all runs off one fuse.

Any ideas what the cause could be?

Car is an E90 BMW.

There is a feature on the car that does this. When you take it for a service you can lock it so that they cant open it. I cant remember exactly how it works, but you put the key in the lock and turn it to a point, then the boot wont open using the button on the key. Maybe play around with it.

On the e90 this feature is the sliding switch located in the cubby an dnot on the boot lock itself.

I've been told it's the actuator???

Could be the actuator. I've also heard that the wiring to the boot might also cause problems. Maybe have both checked.

I've checked the fuses but like I mentioned, the boot release and central locking runs on one fuse...according to the BMW technician anyways. So this shouldn't be a fuse problem.

I'm leaning toward the actuator (as a result of some googling) and it only costs R620 incl VAT so might as well risk it. I'll buy the actuator and the new owner can have it fitted.

The car is most likely to be sold on Saturday or early next week.

Get yourself a copy of the BMW WDS (Wiring Diagram System), it is online available as well, on the WDS it gives the wiring layout of each component, the fuse number as well as location of components, many times there is a good description of operation of the component as well, very informative
