MP Expired: Where do I service my car

The dreaded day has arrived, my MP has expired.

Ive had a look at the "Dealership praise/horror stories" thread as well as the "what dealerships are good?" thread, and obviously 99.9% of suggestions are for BMW dealerships.

Considering the financial aspect, Im not going to take my car to a BMW garage for the 1st out of MP service.

Can anyone recommend a reputable service garage in the JHB area from personal experience?

I have no problem to pay for quality work and great service, just dont want to get ripped off.

Recommendations?

Ross Duncan has a ridiculous knowledge of BMW's dating way, WAY back!! Bookings can take up to two weeks at times because he is always incredibly busy... says a lot about the quality of service her provides. He is a no BS kinda guy, says it like it is and will not take you for a ride. You just can't go wrong

I personally use Tune Tech for major repairs. Or if something breaks.

However, always phone BMW to get a ballpark figure. On my 330d, an oil service at BMW costs between R1600 and R2000. At Tune Tech, its more of less the same but they replace air filter, where BMW dont.

The good thing about Tune Tech, when my car goes in for a service, they do a full check and report back.

I have also had good business dealings with Shaun Sing from Tune Tech for many years, always a pleasure to chat with and extremely knowledgeable!

Hey Arbee,

Oil change at Ross with changing oil filter is about R950, Air filter is another R300, just a heads up

Why buy parts and take it to Ross ?

BMW is usually cheaper with their service items than anywhere else.

I buy all my service parts from BMW, but then again my buddy gets an employee discount as well.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I found this thread from 2011: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/printthread.php?tid=16915

Seems like Ross has been around for a few years? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I've always used Evolution 2 Motorsport in Kyalami. Always had great work done from Alec and his team. Small workshop and does not take in multitudes of cars as they do prep work on race cars (old Viana group N 325is's etc). Pricing is not bad, they use OEM or Meyle and the likes.

On some yes, on most then not at all. Having an employee discount helps plenty as us layman have to settle for 10% discount on service items.

For instance, the service items for my 2004 325i touring last week bought from Alberante BMW.
OEM Keyser Fuel filter/pressure regulator R1067.28 ex vat.
OEM air filter R291.74 ex vat.
OEM oil filter R135.88 ex vat.
OEM tappet cover gasket R537.45 ex vat + the 15 rubber grommet seals @ R11each ex vat.

The 6x Bosch FGR7DQP Iridium spark plugs I got from Beras for R65each incl vat and the 2x 5Lt Castrol Magnetec 5w40 also from Beras for R335each incl vat. The oil can be got cheaper elsewhere but I was already getting alot of other stuff already and didn't want to drive around further.

I enquired about water pump and thermostat prices at BMW, they mad, Water pump just over R1700 ex vat including core charge, thermostat/housing R1410.55 ex vat. 1Lt BMW coolant R70 ex vat.
