By the looks of it, these are my options:

Once "SIAS" anal rape me with their random investigation on my claim (on behalf of outsurance), and they finally approve my pay out. I can:

Take the pay out minus the excess and treat myself to a bicycle cause the payout won't be worth another car

or

Find out: How much it would cost to buy the car back
Who best to contact in terms of repairs (Leonard came up twice)
How much it would cost to repair damages
How much I need from my empty wallet on sorting this out

:argh: :bangdesk:

though I wouldn't mind using this on the repairs
http://www.importparts.co.za/catalog/index.php?cPath=4218_6655&class_8=28&my_type_id=8&class_9=1873&

Probably screw up the 50/50 weight distribution

Can you maybe get a break down of the extent of the damage to the car, structure, suspension, under the skin stuff basically? The someone like Leonard would be able to advise you!

So sorry to hear, this really sucks. Maybe you should look at the option of buying the car back and getting it repaired. That damage looks pretty superficial, but then money today is tight, and any panel work expensive. Good luck, man.

Hi Bud,

Sorry for the delayed response, I dont get much time during the day anymore, man I miss my coroporate job :)

That does look easily fixable.

Bonnet
Bumper
Bumper slides
Front Grill/Facia
Bumper Stiffner
RF Fender
RF Headlight
Maybe new cradle.
Some bumper grilles

Most of the parts are available quality aftermarket.

Whats book on the car, I can perhaps save it.

If book is 40 then you can repair for 30k

And dont be intimidated by the insurance, Outsurance is one of the worst when it comes to claiming.

But, as long as you stick to, "they will repair what is covered for, nothing more nothing less" then you will be fine, unless they can prove reckless/negligent driving, intoxication, driving without license and unroadworthy vehicle...

sorry to hear man. hopefully the cooling/plumbing aint damaged. sensors etc could be costly but it shouldn't cost more than 40k total with OEM and obviously less aftermarket.

was quoted 35k a few months back for similar damage to the e46.

Bad one, but very fixable, from the photo. Only cause for write off would be impact on the wheel causing damage to the body frame, but it can be pulled straight. Look on the bright side, buy it back, you end up with a new car in front when done, if you renew the other side at the same time. (1 side must be done anyway, so do both together.)

So, here's the verdict from Outsurance...they will pay me out on the retail value minus excess :nonono:

(insurance premiums increase no matter what I do, other then not going through with the claim)

So the buy back option:

Outsurance have a salvage value on the vehicle, that I need to pay, in order to keep the car. So my pay out - 39% (of retail value) - excess = bout R25000 and my broken dolphin.

No BMW OEM parts for my car....which sucks thoroughly due to the fact that my dolphin was in good original condition.

Outsurance quote on repairs came to R40000

Need to assess the cost to repair 1st hand now

(no costly cf body parts for my car :fencelook: )

Sorry for this heartache buddy.
At least you can breathe a sigh of relief that the claim is approved. Heard nightmare stories first hand from friends about rejected claims through Outsurance.

Here is the thing you have to keep in mind.

The aftermarket parts for the E36 have been in existance for so long, that they really are virtually a copy of the original,

I have no problem with bonnets, fenders ect.

You can always source a second hand bumper, and the plastic trim you can buy new from the agents.

I would go for original headlights as well, or put 2 brand new quality aftermarket parts.

Between second hand, and aftermarket, and some new OEM bits, you will come right on that budget for sure.

I did a complete oem front bumper, tons of plastic bits, fender linders ect the other day, and the cost was about 12k, using originals :)

+1!

Plus, either way you look at it, you are going to be out of pocket going forward - buying a different car you are most likely going to have to add a considerable amount to your pay out amount, then what sort of problems will you potentially have with that car since in most cases it will be a used car too.

If the damage to your car is mostly cosmetic, i.e. the overall structure of the car, engine etc is fine, then fixing with good quality generic parts is the way to go. And as Leonard says, E36 replacement parts companies have had many years to perfect their products, so provided the repair work is done properly there really shouldn't be an issue. As far as I am concerned, too many great cars get scrapped these days because of the cost to repair, mainly because in most cases, they don't want to repair but simply replace parts that are most likely fixable.

Easy to do here on that budget using either 2nd hand or pirate parts
(= O.E.M.), including full body spray job. Not sure about Labour costs there, though. GO FOR IT!!!

Telling insurance I want her back today...

Such a head ache, need to pick it up as soon as possible, and move it to an panel beater for an assessment. (Hopefully I can tear off the bumper and drive it, should save a towing fee.)

If anyone could help me get quality aftermarket parts, it would be very helpful.

(Kinda wanted to replace the fenders and bonnet with carbon fiber, but that's way over the budget. Parts I've seen are close to R10000 each):
