Farewell...
Well, to close off this Porsche thread, here are farewell photos and some closing comments.
A great car.
The 981 Cayman S is not a car I regret buying. I really enjoyed it and, apart from a portion of the maintenance, I got my money back which is some consolation. Yes, we had our ups and downs (the gearbox issue being a bitter pill), but the positives outweighed the negatives overall.
This is a car that you can drive at the speed limit and it feels and sounds fast. It is a car that flatters the novice driver and rewards the more experienced driver. It is a brilliant entry level baby super car. It helps you become a better driver. It does not bite your hand but gently smacks you if push it too hard. You learn your own limitations well before you reach the car's.
Why am I selling?
I can live with the occasional back pain from the low seating position, especially when tackling poor roads at speed.
I can live with the lack of practicality, since I have other cars to fulfil that role.
However, as my family obligations take more prominence, it is difficult (maybe a bit selfish) to enjoy this car on the weekends.
This was indeed a lockdown purchase. After lockdown, work obligations mean that I now spend long hours at the office during the week. On weekends, that is family time and having a 2 seater sports car is hard to justify in that context. Sadly, I don't feel that Porsche SUVs are true Porsches, so that rules them out. Panameras are too big to be sports cars.
I will write another thread on why I chose the replacement.
As I write this now, I am prepping for a long drive and then it is farewell to this great car.
I will return to Porsche one day...
