Its quite a job to get the old glass lense off on some of them as you need to either stick in an oven to get the glue heated and tacky which will then allow you to remove the lense which you will need to do anyway if you want to install angel eyes.

Then to put it back together you heat it up again and stick it back together, the problem is some of them didn't use the heat active glue and instead used a very tought silicone that is quite a mission to take appart, I did he same here but used a heat gun and a stanly knife and cut away at the thing and eventually got it appart, it was a interesting job lol, then to put it back together after that I just used silicone and held the lights together with cable ties till it was dry.

Maybe there is a easier way to do it online but that was how I tackled the job a couple years ago when I still had an E36 :)

on the E36? all the DIY vids ive seen show a couple of metal clips that you pop off.

That is just beautiful work! It surely must be very satisfying to hand back a car that has been so wonderfully finished!

Great work LZ and your team of craftsmen! (or craftspeople!)

You are both right, the clips remove the front part of the headlight....how ever, the front part of the head light are 2 pieces that are sealed together. I believe Osiris is referring to this.

This is the part I'd like to "clean".

Just installing Angel Eyes, doesn't require the front part of the head light to be separated.

I will look into buying a new front part (if not to expensive) as separating it seems like a daunting task.

Is this on the oem lights? Most youtube vids show the djauto depo zkw brands, and the inner lense seems easy to remove on those specific headlights

The headlights that I found very difficult to remove the big front glass cover lense was on my 1995 325i it was a serious mission to separate those covers, the inside little round glass lenses I removed all together as they just look crap, it makes the car look aged, if you remove those and set your angel eyes where those lenses went it will give the front of the car a very refreshed look..you will also get a hell of allot more light output which is definitely not a bad thing :)

This is my old 325i that I was speaking about, I replaced the front glass lenses and removed the inner round glass lenses and then fitted a set of angel eyes.
325i.jpg

Also once you get HID in there it will look even cooler once you have done this mod, if you don't do this mod and fit HID it actually has a bit of a shit effect as the light gets diffused around those pieces of glass which looks terrible. what would also be a great idea if you want to go one step further is order a set of shrouds from Vsomai for the projectors.

That looks really nice, however after removing those inner lenses did it affect you driving at night ?

I've noticed with my previous & current e36 328i, oncoming motorists always flash me when my low beams are on

Na it didn't affect my driving at night at all, suffice to say that I did go up to a wall and set them up with a friend to make sure the cut offs were at the right level.

Back when I did this mod I had no idea what shrouds were and if I did I would have definitely bought a set and fitted them as it does look pretty cool with the E46 shrouds in there :) this should also eliminate any light escaping which might be why oncoming traffic might be flashing you?

Update on my upgrade.

This took the whole day...and so frustrating. (And probably cocked it up)

But again, thanks to LZ for helping me out. (I've probably over stayed my welcome)

Left Upgraded Right Std
Fog Light on left has Night Breaker, and parking light is a LED

Unfortunately, my original headlight is still sand blaster-ed, and to my knowledge, auto style don't sell new glass casings

I have completed the other side, just to lazy to take pics (plus its raining)

looks good. Where did you source your HID kit, angel eyes and parking light LED from?

you can polish your headlight lense btw. may need to laminX it because polishing will strip the UV protection layer, and it will yellow again.

Want to wrap all the lights on the car with a gun smoke or tint...

we'll see how it goes

Looking good! nice one for taking those ugly glass pannels out of there. looks 100x better!

auto style may not sell them but Autostyling in strijdom park definately does as I have bought two sets from them!

How much did you get one for?

And were they a clean fit onto original e36 head lights?

As my pirated head light and the original are definitely not interchangeable with parts.

how hard was it to strip out the headlight and pull it apart?

did you aim it after you put it back in?
Probably should have asked you to take pics as you went along

I cant remember how much they were it was a while ago, but my gut tells me it was R600 for the set, but that was a good 4 years ago...

well it wasnt easy at all to fit them as I had to use a stanly knife to cut away all the silicone from the old lenses which were a bitch to get out in the first place, after they were removed I siliconed and cable tied it and left it for a day or two to cure. suffice to say that one of the angel eyes came loose and I was not impressed as I had to strip those things again!!
