Motorplan extension - is it worth it

Greetings fanatics

I would greatly appreciate the input of my fellow fanatics, I have a 2010 320d, whose motorplan expires on 24 Jan 2015. My vehicle has 63,5XXkm on with no comments on the plan.

BMW has quoted me R9,024.13 to extend for one year, this to me seems rather steep as but would like to hear from others who have extended their motorplan's whether not this is a fair price or more daylight robbery.

a pic of my beauty attached.

cheers
Julius

If you have no intention of modifying your car then extend it. Phone other dealerships maybe they will give you a better price. I remeber it was R7k for me to extend by a year a year ago. And if you do extend just start complaining about stuff and get parts replaced.

Its really simple... Thiink about the mont spent on a year to maintain your car and the possibility of something breaking then figure out weather or not the 9 k really is that steep..

I have done it on my M and definitely worth it...

Pay it, and take the year to find faults and get all the niggles sorted out befor it's out of plan completely. if you do a major service with disks and pads etc you should get most of that 9k back anyway :)

I would suggest go for it.

I extended mine two years in a row on my 135i, 12k last year and 14k this year.

It is extremely steep, but in case something happens to your car mechanically, you know you are covered.

I unfortunately have to fight with the dealers every time my vehicle gets booked in. If you tell them that something is wrong, often they will turn around and say its normal or they found no fault, don't let them mess you around, ensure they sort the issue out!

pricing is set by BMWSA, not the dealers. So they'll all quote the same.
I feel it's definitely worth the peace of mind.

Extend the MP.

One claim can well exceed the the cost of the extension.

The extension on my 335i cost R14k for a year.

The car had over 100k worth of work done.

Not that there was anything wrong with the car though :fencelook:

You can also go for the option of getting your car insured for mechanical failures by other insurance companies instead of paying the high price of the motor plan, or maybe you will end up paying the same?

Anyway, with cars you end up paying, no matter what, be it an expensive motor plan, or a big wad of cash whenever something goes wrong.

Ask Chris Brand and myself, we know all about the second one :bangdesk:

Like they said..Do it!!

Had mine extended 1year and an extra few km (some how I am not sure) for 9k on a 130i.
Clutch has been done and has to go in for VANOS now, definitely worth it.

Or if you know of a good ex-BMW technician, better to make a deal with him to pay a certain amount each month and be assured of repairs when needed.

IMO, extending years is a good idea. Extending km I disagree with. It's like R1.30/km or more (I don't have quotes for that). I just feel if you're going to spend R20k on extending, rather bank it and spend it when you need to, if you need to. I've had pretty major stuff replaced while on MP. The most, however, was a turbo and engine strip. This at the dealer was R15k. I've had nothing that comes close in price in all the BMW driving I have done. And according to my experience, BMW service garages do more harm than good to the cars.

And 3rd party warranties are a waste of time and money, IMO.

Extension on time is way more reasonable... With mileage and time it becomes very pricey which was possibly the case for you....

Make friends with a service adviser/manager.
However even in saying this BMW motorplan have tightened up on parts replacement close to the end of motorplan, with parts needing to go back to m-plan for inspection.

how long before your next service?
