It just keeps on getting better!

Can only imagine how fun it must be to drive with the intake and bm3

Consumption is also super impressive!

Nice updates over the past few days. Your enthusiasm for this car / motor combo will definitely help someone sitting on the fence to decide.

That fuel consumption on the open road is incredible! It's amazing to see just how fuel efficient modern boosted engines can be. (I don't know when last I saw single digit fuel consumption figures, haha!)

Haha thanks dude! B58 was something I wanted for so long. So to have it, and have it excede the expectation has been really cool!

Keen to hear more about this...likely one of the next mods i do
What ID are you on? Mine was super quick to do! A gent from the BMW group was able to help me. I can flash it for you with pleasure. We just need to pay him and get the keys that way.

Updates!

Been a while. This car is still absolutely fantastic. Everyone should own a B58 LOL. I have no complaints about this wonderful car. It is simply spectacular!

A while ago I had the pleasure of driving a G87. The biggest thing that stood out for me was the brakes. From the get go, you feel so confident when stopping.

This made responsible me decide to upgrade my own.

Unfortunately, I do not have the Msport rear caliper (next upgrade?). But I did get hold of a set of VARI heat-treated and slotted discs (as I have done on my other cars, too) and some EBC Bluestuff.

Side story - the design of the bigger (Msport) brake caliper is 100x better. Changing pads on the MSport caliper doesn't require a bolt to be removed. Simply popping out the locating pins, compressing the pistons again, and fitting the new ones! Very well designed, and the actual caliper 'case' just makes sense to be honest. Thoroughly enjoyed that change - don't judge me.

Discs fitted (front & rear), and pads bed in this weekend. The bed in process definitely requires a late night drive - needing to have long distances to coast, and enough space to brake to 40km/h.

Process complete - the brakes feel a lot better! I thoroughly enjoyed the bed-in process and feeling how they 'dropped off' initially, and then the 'bite' returned thereafter. The following day, from the get-go they were SHARP. Time will tell going forward.

Didnt go overboard on brake fluid, but dot5.1 is being used currently.

Shoutout to Gav from Gshift for sourcing pads for me and being my own courier guy for the discs too. The 130i is alright ;)

If you have a sharp eye, you may notice the new tyres too. More on that in the next post.

General Update & Pics

When I first got this amazing car (564 days ago), I was working remotely, so fuel economy wasn’t a big concern at the time.

Fast forward to now, and I’m back in the office three times a week – LOL! Over the past year, I’ve driven just over 10,000 km. Thankfully, my commute is pretty ideal: 23 km through town or 38 km via highways. This gives me a good mix of driving where the car can really shine – cruising at optimal temperatures and enjoying solid drives.

On the highway, I regularly see fuel consumption of 6L/100km without much effort. The challenge, though, is resisting the temptation to drive a bit more spiritedly – it’s nearly impossible! But I’m glad I get to enjoy it. The ā€œsmiles per mileā€ more than make up for how often I have to refuel. Honestly, it’s not too bad (~12.5L/100km combined over the last stretch).

The Bridgestone Potenzas have been fantastic – softer and more comfortable than I expected. The 275s are wide, even wider than the Pirellis, it seems. Occasionally, they’ll catch the arch on bumps, so that answers the question of whether I’ll lower the car – probably not! They grip well too; I’ve surprised myself on a few launches. I haven’t done a Dragy test yet to confirm if the 60ft time has improved, though I might’ve left that too long now. But overall, the tires are performing great.

BM3 has also been a great tool. I like playing around with different OTS maps, switching between the stock map, Stage 1 91, Stage 2 91, E30, and so on. I make sure not to stay on ethanol tunes too long, cycling off and running regular fuel maps for lubrication (and because I’m a bit OCD).

The E30 map is my favorite – the torque and pull are incredible, and it’s still within the safe limits for the HPFP. That said, Stage 1 91 is probably the most practical for everyday driving. The more aggressive maps make the traction control kick in more during normal driving, so Stage 1 feels the most balanced. But when I want fun, Sport Plus (or better šŸ˜‰) on the E30 map is an absolute blast!

Great car. The 6wb and Carplay make the interior feel pretty modern still. No replacement in sight.

Amazing consumption considering the performance on offer should you fail to resist the temptation...

I recognize that mall, I am 2min down the road from there...
