MKIV Navigation Drive Repair - DIY UPDATED!!

As I mentioned my MKIV nav computer in the 7er was not reading the nav disc. Deducted that the laser module was kaput. Ordered a replacement module (R300-odd) which arrived today and followed a very detailed DIY on how to replace it. Long story short...my MKIV nav has a new lease on life:)

A replacement DVD drive for the MKIV costs around R3k as a matter of interest.

I have uploaded a PDF with the original DIY I followed, as well as some additional notes I made while doing the repair. Some pics after the successful re-install of the MKIV computer :)

Replacement laser: Search for "SF-HD4 Black Cap" on your favorite online stores. I found them on eBay, as well as some online parts retailers. I ended up buying from SunSky Online (LINK) because they offer express courier options. There are several variations of this module. You have to select (a) black cap and (b) straight cable.

For some reason the original PDF no longer works, so I am uploading it again.

Just an update. Almost 6 months since the DIY and everything is still 100%. As the MKIV drives out there in the wild get older more and more people are faced with failing drives. This guide has been quite popular in the States.
