Mention System Suggestion for the Forum

Been brainstorming abit and was wondering, is it possible to implement a mentioning system on the forum where a person can mention someone by their forum name.

For example :

If i start a thread and need advice and we know a person that is good in that topic but has not seen the thread, can we not use something like @(User forum name here) by typing that, can send a message/e-mail to that user stating they were mentioned in that thread, and that mentioned user can then respond ?

Can we also have a close thread button for the users? I think that will take some strain of the admin to close peoples thread after the sale is complete?

Just a suggestion, not sure how the other peeps will feel about it ?

We've been wanting this tag thing for a while but no other admins have ever looked into it.

I'll see what this mod is about and if I can get it to work on our version of MyBB because the last plugin I looked at was incompatible.

Regarding the close button for normal users; can't be done. Moderators are there for these things and we have a large enough moderator body :=):

At the bottom of this page you will see a button that says "subscribe to this thread" and you will be emailed when new replies are made to that thread :=):

This can also be done for an entire subforum if you wish, to notify you of new threads in that subforum.

Not sure if the same back end is used for these forums but how about a notification system like this one.....

In order to keep up with new posts I usually just go to participated threads but that could be tiring.

The easiest way to go to the last post of a thread you have already been in, after there are new posts, is to click the little green arrow on the left of the thread name. It takes you to the first unread post (by you) in that thread.

So I generally use the "view today's posts" and "participated threads" options and then just ctrl+click on the green arrows for threads I'm interested in.
