Owned this baby from around 1998, this car was bought from an owner in Jo'burg and we drove it down...First it was my mom's car, then my brother's and then in 2010 it was handed down to me.

The car used to have yellow metal no. plates which I find firstly matching the age of the car i.e. old yellow plates represent the era before the plastic white ones thus giving this car some historical taste. Secondly I just think that yellow plates really ruins the black and white theme I have in mind for the car...now those yellow plates are proudly stuck onto my garage wall

Planned mods?:
New clear indicators, sides and tail lights.
35% Tinted windows (black obviously:rollsmile:)
Repaint and rust treatment
New S/S exhaust system (probably by NoiseBoyz)
HID Kit

*Turbo project in the planning stages

Looking good, and very well looked after! Good to see! These days most cars are treated as disposable objects rather than cared for! The new white plates makes a huge difference hey - car looks a lot cleaner and neat now! CF roundels are a nice touch!!

Your list of mods sound great, tinting will look awesome! What about wheels and so on? Not always easy to find, but often there are some gems on the gum!

Non vanos motor has 138 kw at 5900 rpm , vanos had 141 Kw , torque was 240 Nm at 4700 rpm , same motor as 325i e36 .
maybe you need a manual conversion - will improve economy in town and performance .
These are good old ladies , also nimble for their size .
There is a Bently manual for the e34 525i to 540i on the net you can download for free .

Yep, the manual conversion would transform this car dynamically!! Back to the wheels, often some great bargains (with exception for some of the rubbish) on gumtree. Also Zaki at Wheelworx often has very nice OEM wheels at very good prices. I gather it is tricky to find the correct offset wheels for E34's, so probably makes better sense to stick to OEM E34 wheels. And if I learnt anything from my hunting around for wheels for my Wife's car, take your time, the right wheels will come around. But before investing in boots for the wheels, make sure the wheels are all spot on, not like what I did...
