Spoke to the mech. Can't do a bigger engine. Too much stuff that needs to be changed according to him. Still waiting to hear what went wrong this time

Can anyone please tell me where I can find a good engine for my car? Wanted to buy the one I found earlier this week, they sold it yesterday

Next option is 2004 engine with less than 100 000km for R17 000

Hi there, I wonder what this "too many stuff to change on a bigger engine" it is your mech is talking about. The basic concept is that you can fit any of the e46 double vanos (6 cylinder of course)engines in that car of yours, only issue will be that you will not get bigger output per se on your current ecu setup, ie. 320i vs 325i/ 330i. There are differences between the 4 cylinder/ 6 cylinder engines and ///m engines. I guess you going to spend not that much more on a bigger output 6 cyl engine. Hopefully one of our experts on this forum can shed more light on this matter. I hope you get shorted out soon

BMW is analysing the whole engine and everything they worked on. They sent the top to Vereeniging to do a "hot test" There might be a hairline crack on it. If this is the case they're not going to pay for the engine. But, they are a bunch of fkn skelms, they skimmed the top and worked on it. now it is OUR problem if there is something else wrong on it ?!?!

We will fight them on this, as everything done in the past 2 and a half months has nothing to do with us. The car came home 3 times. First 2 times it was the same problem, radiator light, then temp rises. Last time, it was smoking worse than I have seen on any car/taxi/bus. And then suddenly it started overheating again. :argh:

So now we wait...

Have they determined what is actually wrong with your existing engine? Sorry if I have missed this, but I am pretty sure they have botched something up whereas a proper engineering firm would be able to fix without any hassles. Buying a used engine could work and save you lots of grief and extra money, but there is of course a nasty flip side to that coin...

Edit, just saw your response now. Sounds fishy. Was the cylinder head cracked before they worked on the engine, can they prove this?

Yes, there is the black spots on a second hand engine.. But at this stage we have to wait and see what BMW finds.

And the mech at BMW that worked on my car couldn't find the problem... I don't know how that is possible. How can a BMW mechanic NOT find a fault in a car's engine in roughly 10 weeks

I feel I can join u in your frustration. The job was taken on by them and one assumes that they performed a proper diagnosis as to the possible problem, including cracktesting, etc before quoting on the job. They cannot go back and claim there might be a latent defect they were not aware of! You at least have the new credit act and other avenues to your disposal!

How would I go about this? I have no idea how these things work, and I am not the one paying the bills, but the more I/we know, the better.

Really sorry to hear about these troubles man, but be ready for BMW to find a "pre-existing" issue on the motor and drop the whole steaming pile right in your lap, this is the way they do business, actually had BMW supply me wrong parts that then did further damage and they where just, meh not our problem.

But I am wishing you the best of luck with everything.
