Making the N55 E90 beat an F30

This morning I saw a 135i put foot and thought "damn that is quick" and yesterday I saw a F30 pre-LCI 335i and thought a similar thing.

Now with all the threads I have been reading, it made me wonder this morning what mods it would take to make the N55 E90 be on a equal footing (if not marginally quicker preferably) than an F30 and F30 LCI. We all know those new ZF gearboxes are a big advantage so upping the power seems to be the only route.

I am looking at N55 here over the N54 (probably cause I have one ) as again, we know that N54 can be magic with mods.

What do you peeps reckon it will entail?

Software/JB4 should be enough for an E90 335i to beat an F30 335i but if you still greedy for more, Intake and DownPipes with a stage 2 map will be more lethal.

I am actually shocked a JB4 alone can do this.

So who has done a JB4 with charge pipe and catless downpipe? What official figures and sprint times are you getting with this? I can't see someone knocking off a whole 1 second off the claimed acceleration times.

I can accept the newer N55 and B58 engines beating me but I hate it when a S3 or Golf R kick my ass too. It is demoralizing. Hahaha

IMO, downpipe and some good stage 2 software like MHD(Twisted Tuning) will be more than enough for an N55 F30. B58 could be problematic though..

Are there any drawbacks from using a JB4 ? Does it decrease the lifespan of an engine ? I mean , your making the engine work a lot harder then what its supposed to rite? Or is everything still within spec ?

In most cases, forcing the engine to work harder than its use to working will cause extra heat/wear and maybe create additional stress on other working/moving parts... so yes, it will decrease the life of the engine as opposed to a stock motor which is just serviced and maintained.

I see many people use the JB4 on their daily drivers and are happy regarding reliability. Sure, increased maintenance is a must but overall, i don't see reliability being greatly diminished however this does assume the boost and other mods don't push extreme levels and the car isn't driven constantly as if on a track.

There is a YouTube channel, "BMWFanatic" (without the S) who had an N54 and I think he said in his one video that he is approaching 150k miles on the clock. He uses his 335i as a daily and runs it with a JB4 on map 5.

I ran my car on map 5 daily, used ethanol every other week and used map 7.

For how long did you do this? Experience any differences in reliability or maintenance before and after (assuming you had enough time with the "before")?

I have only had a failure of the plastic charge pipe. Put the metal charge pipe and all was fine.

Then i had a valvetronic issue that BMW repaired.

Thats about it

Seems about normal. Have long did you drive the car for with the JB4 and charge pipe in?
