Made my day

Dropped into the local BMW to get a license disc sticker.

Had a good look around at all the used for sale cars at prices I could never dream to afford right now. Look at the hovering salesman and say " I think I need a better job before I consider buying anything newer"

Realising this is a no sale he looks at me, looks at my E39 outside and says "Yours is just as good as all of these cars"

From the horse's mouth and a guy who drives all the latest and greatest I thought that was a pretty cool statement.

When I go to SMG now, there are always a few of the techies etc that have to come and take a look at spongebob. The guy in the sales office says that if I dont tell him first when I sell it, he will never give me discount again :)

It seems like I share most of your sentiments lately.

Valid points

I work on computers all day, I type SMS's all day, I have a Netbook, a Laptop and a Desktop all for different tasks. I do presentations and screw around with light projector settings over and over and my PDA pisses me off hourly. I have a VCR, DVD and TV I have to figure out for an hour just to record a TV show.

The last fscking thing I would want to do when when I'm tired and I get in my car to go home is have to adjust the climate control with a joystick.

I want dedicated buttons I can reach out and touch in the dark, they're never hidden, they don't move and they have one damn function.

Only THEN can I enjoy the drive

The E34 still takes some getting use to. I'm not really a fan of these computers on wheels especially considering that I sit behind a PC and code all day.

I think the iDrive (Is that what it's called?) must be very distracting if you need to change something while on the road.

I hate the fact that my car doesn't have a dipstick and that i have no bloody heat gauge...
the heat gauge is something i always want to see cause if the car overheats and lets say a sensor or whatever doesn't work WTF am i gonna do when the car really overheats.

Just a dumb question :)

Went for a long trip in the father in laws new 523i (F series), I must say it has all the bells and whistles (none of them that he can understand), but the computer is way too complicated and even he agrees that the E34 and E39 were much more easier and driver orientated.

Ol' Skool BM's is still a Man's best friend.

They tested the pre-production f m5 in a recent Car magazine.

What I found interesting is that, they were hoping it would be as good as the e39 m5... not the e60 one...

That E60 M5 is out of this world.... Seriosly, it cannot be compared to an E39 M5, but thats not a bad thing, both cars are spectacular in their own way

Why does everybody hate the E60 so much, I love it, maybe I am just odd...

As you said LZ...

Both are awesome in their own way. :)
I like both aswell, different strokes for different folks as they say.

Some people just don't like the extra tech in the E60 and some do. So i would say dankie tog that every person doesn't have the same taste in cars etc.

Alot of people hate the E90's too.. strange enough i love it. :)

Each to their own and appreciate what you have, you got it because you like it anyway..

Maybe because it looks more like a camry than a 5 series :mmm::mmm::)

I think the E60 M5 is a fantastic car when it's working and being driven as intended - full commitment mode! But for everyday driving, I don't know, maybe not as practical as the E39 M5. And then the reliability issues with the SMG gearbox and diff. I think the E39 also being a V8 and having a proper manual gearbox still appeals to the purist.

As mentioned above, I can only imagine that the differences would be similar to comparing an E46 to an E90 - and from what I have noticed so far, the E46 is maybe a little more direct in throttle response (less electronics interfering or to a lesser degree). I can however honestly say that whether I drive my Wife's E46 or my E90, they both put a smile on my face.

I think the E60 M5 would have been so much better if they offered it with a manual gearbox worldwide with the SMG as an option.
