M88 in a ?

Car needs a revamp and motor was delivered to me whilst body went for a few touch ups.
The brief is to shape up the engine and attend to what is needed.

Initially I was reluctant to undertake the project as I have Rick's car coming back from the panelbeaters and that is pretty much a ground up restoration however stupidity got the better of me and the owner has really helped me in sourcing parts for Rick's car.

To the man reading this and shaking his head all I have to say in my defense is : I am a soft touch.

What you see in the pic above and below is the external water manifold on the M88 head which has been blocked in almost all its exit passages.

Motor has good compression (140) so it will be a refresh of external components as well as an update of certain components.

Owner wishes for period correct motor without any "crazy" stuff on it as he is fearfull that it shall detract from the overall car.

The engineering is a piece of art and all this from 1978 if what I see on the block is right (would not be the first time my eyes deceive me).

PS it seems like these babies could make 900hp in racing spec with a rather large turbo attached...

No turbocharging.

Water manifold was dipped at the engineers and it will need to be welded and machined as most mating surfaces are pitted.

Painted the block and had all the aluminium brackets chemically cleaned.
