I hope everyone has been safe lately.
Yesterday I went over to the SMG dealership here in Umhlanga to get a license disk for my M240i and I couldn't help but have a look at what was around. First thing that caught my eye was a brand new M8 Comp in like a satin white finish getting prepared for delivery. It honestly is a beautiful car and I even had a look at the spec sheet. It was fully spec'd out to just over R3.4 Million which is a crazy amount of money for a BMW.
After I saw that figure, I seriously started wondering about the resale on these M8s and how much they would sell for used in the future like in a year or 2. It's undoubtedly a very beautiful car, I love the way it looks, love the interior and the performance, it replaced the BMW M6 well I would say even though I'm still in love with the M6. But for that price, is it really worth it considering you can pick up an F90 M5 Comp for so much less yet it has the same amount of power and its also much more practical. Used the F90s with under 20k mileage are going for about R1.5 Million or so which is quite a drop from the brand new price. Another car that's also dropping substantially is the Audi R8 V10 Plus which starts at R3.2 and used examples with under 10K on the clock are selling for lower than R2.3 which quite reasonable for a supercar.
But with regards to the M8, I definitely don't think the price is worth it brand new, however I feel it might be when they used in the years to come like the R8. So if I'm being honest, I wouldn't spend that much on a BMW, I'd buy the F90 M5 Comp or if I were looking at getting a 2 door sports car, I'd go with a pre-owned low mileage R8 V10 Plus considering its a Lamborghini Huracan in Audi clothing.
But what do you gents think, how much would the M8 be in the future years to come used, and would you buy one if you had that money ?
