Ok understand. terrencem5v10 says his mileage is creeping to 120k km so he wanna do bearings, what if i get m6 with 70k km would i still need to do bearings straight away?

I would say so. There are S85 that have failed at 50000K and there are that only failed at 240000KM. It all depends how the previous owner treated the car, but you will never get the full truth from the owner. If you cannot do it immediately do change the oil to thinner oil and do not run it too hard all the time. I bought mine at 50K km and its sitting on 90K km, and I cannot tell you the horrible feeling of knowing that the engine can explode anytime. My bearings are on the way though

The problem is the bearings could go at anytime, so basically what guys are saying is that as soon as you buy an M, be it a V8, V10, S54, if the car is out of motorplan, do the bearings as a pre-cautionary measure.

You may buy that M6 with 70k km on, and drive it till 160k km without any bearing issues, but then, you may buy it, and then the bearings fail at 75k km, it's the risk that's involved. More and more guys are starting to rather deal with that risk now and have the bearings done, rather than wait for it them to fail or think that theirs never will.

Here is a quote from tunetech as reference purposes. I would suggest if you are financing the car to take mechanical breakdown insurance as well. They should cover part of the expense.

If you want some history with regards to how hard an ///M has been driven, plug it in.

When I was at Gert's place, I remember seeing that my car had been red lined a good 500 times. Even logs the highest RPM reached.

What exactly is a high number, that's difficult to say. With my current mileage that averages out to red line every 160km. Not too bad in my opinion. Also the fact that nothing had ever been replaced in my car is also a good indicator.

Obviously this is just part evidence with regards to the true history, but it's a very good indicator nonetheless.

Personally, I'm more afraid of a car that's had things replaced like clutches, bearings etc than one that hasn't.

do you guys know what is the price on:
1.clutch and flywheel replacement
2. smg pump and actuator

so far it seems that on average at 60k km these things need to be changed:
1- bearings- R25k
2. clutch and flywheel?
3. smg pump and actuator?

obviously all cars are diff but from my research this is what i concluded.

If you won't be doing the replacement yourself, send tunetech a email and request a quote for those items. That will give you an indicator.

Mine was replaced before I bought the car, think the clutch + pump was in the 70K range, but need to double check..

I know the clutch kit + flywheel is around R25k alone excl labour... But bear in mind that these clutches are good for 130k + km... They aren't a common thing to need replacing from my research.

Tune Tech will definitely be of help.

u lucky, i'm gonna be looking for a car that has had atleast 2 of those 3 items replaced aswell

Thats not always a positive mate, cos that could mean abuse, meaning that something else will also need replacing soon. Failures caused by abuse are not isolated to one part at all, most times. Many things to consider.

Like I said with mine, mine has zero comments on it. You're either lucky or not really. It's almost impossible to tell what's good or isn't.

Not always.

My clutch has been replaced 2 times along with pump and other bits and pieces. The reason being that the previous owner made them replace everything under warranty before they went out of warranty.

My feeling always is if it was replaced then the possibilities of it being replaced anytime soon is very rare.

Ok Guys time to start looking. I want the v10 so bad but i know that every time i drive it i will be a little scared of something going wrong, so i am not closed off to a m3 v8 manual.

M6 & m5 problems:
Vanos, clutch and flyweel ( wears very quickly apparently),smg pump and actuator, bearings

M3 problems:
Bearings

Problem for both:
I am having a really, in my opinion dumb problem, i cant find anybody that is prepared to work on a m6, m5 or m3 in east London and i cant take to the stealers, obviously too expensive.

Budget
200 -300k the budget, that's all i have to spare, baby on the way and its gonna be my personal toy, spending probably more of its life in the garage.Whatever not spent will go into a rainy day account lol.

I dont mind waiting, i want a luck. I will post cars and u guys tell me what you think

Wouldnt want such high mileage, but the price is great:

There a M5 for sale with 77000km. The cleanest you'll ever find. Think it's R300k. Color combo is perfect too.

Saw it and i do like it, but dont think i will spend more than 250k on a m5, remember i posted one on second page, that one was 250k and only had 55000km on it and was immaculate.

Ok new plan, i need the v10 in my life and i need a 4 door as it will be more practical on occasion considering i am having a second child soon, All this equals E60 M5. Budget 200-250k
