I'd say go for the M6. I don't think there will ever be another production car in the future that will come with a V10(besides supercars). This car will definitely be sort after in the future.

Hi mate

Your budget is a little on the low side IMHO. If you're looking for a pristine example, I'd say budget about R380 to R450k for a nice 07 model. The way I see it, the M6's have just about bottomed out at R400k. They've been hovering around there for a while and dealers are more than happy to keep the price there and wait for the right buyer, because they trade in badly and their GP is huge on them. That also gives you negotiating power on the flipside too.

Even the M3's for the mileage range you're looking for will be quite hard to find.

Have you seen this? I'd take this and run!!!! bargain of the century!!!

ya a good look at that one, not quite ready to pull the trigger just yet, though. I know my budget is 300k+- but i dont really doubt that i will find a good m6 or m3 for that money, if i look at what is available right now. i need another 2-3 months before i buy, sort finances out properly, but i really dont mind waiting till jan, like i said it will be a spare weekend car.

Is there a maintenance cost difference between an m6 and m3 out of plan with 70-90k mileage?

I'd take the M3 largely because it's probably the most reliable out of the lot :fencelook:

Honestly I just love the look of the E92 M3, but the M6 would be a close second.

Thats a good point but is it really true? that what im trying to find out

For all the problems the m6 has it is this fact that makes me think of buying it

A bargain yes, but apparently the car's a dog. That same link was posted on another thread (can't seem to find it now). Someone on this forum went to look at it and he said the clear coat was peeling all over and so forth. Someone also said, which I think is true, 'the most expensive ///M car you can buy is a cheap one'. Keep looking mate, but don't just look at the cheapest ones.

*EDIT* Found the thread: http://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=67362&pid=1092503#pid1092503
Agreed, im not not gonna buy junk. if i have to pay a little more to get the right thing i will.

The bearing problem can be sorted out easily... Costs about R25k and you're good.

It's blown way out of proportion for something that can be fixed for a relatively low cost. I'm having mine done as a precaution.

Google in the forum, there was a guy with an e92 M3 whose bearings failed. It's an ///M wide problem, also dependant on how the vehicle was driven. I've seen M6's with 140k km on the clock and have NEVER had a problem.

That V10 tone is insane... Pipes and software make it sound even crazier.

That M5 is amazing... Wow!!! Go have a look at it. Things sometimes are way better in person. You don't have anything to lose.

Also take your time like you said. The right one will definitely come along.

Good luck. Hope you find it.

the v10 does sound absolutely insane with pipes!!! I just don't like the idea of paying retail & then forking out R25k for bearings

If its a M6 or M3 you have to do bearings. Both cars have issues with bearings, so taking that out of the equation take the M6, it's only about 70Kg heavier than the m3, it has a v10!! There seriously is no other M that compares. But I am biased.

Then never buy any M car. They all need bearings

It depends on where you go to get it done to be honest ;) They do it pretty quick I'm told, strip the old ones out and chuck the new ones in. Job done.

Personally I'd rather have someone do it that will take their time and make sure it's done right. I'll be starting the disassembly on my car this weekend, and I'm also planning on fitting a dipstick to the sump so that I can know for sure what the oil levels are ;)

So do u wait for bearings to fail or should u do it at a certain amount of km?

If you wait for bearings to fail then you basically have waited for the engine to fail which means engine rebuild or a new engine. You do it as soon as possible, buy the car and have it done for peace of mind. There are no warnings beforehand to predict the bearings conditions. The only way to know is to actually take them out and visually inspect them, but if they are out you might as well change them.

Ok understand. terrencem5v10 says his mileage is creeping to 120k km so he wanna do bearings, what if i get m6 with 70k km would i still need to do bearings straight away?
