@ Anton I heard they about 4.5k from the dealers
@Andy Do you know if they stock the 3.0 one as it is different from the 325i and 320i.

I actually read that the disa differs between the two engines when I was researching that. :YesNo:

There is actually no such thing as a DISA unit on the M54, because DISA (DIfferenzierte Sauganlage) refers to a differential intake, ie. two discrete intake paths, whereas on the M54 it uses a resonance tube to alter the intake dimensions, it is actually called a resonance flap. Apart from changing the intake dimensions it also uses resonant back pulses (again, resonance tube, resonance flap) from the closed valves to aid cylinder filling on the cylinders where the valves are open.

The short if it is that is it make the intake work well for high and low RPM in the same way that vanos makes the cam timing work for both high and low RPM.

I have a spare one for you. I bought it to use temporarily when I was waiting for the repair kit to arrive for mine. I will have to confirm the condition, but last time I checked it worked as it should. I would however recommend getting a repair kit for it as the crank lever is a bit worn. Last time I checked, agents wanted R4.5k for a new unit. Drop me a PM if interested.

As far as I know, it's not something that really needs replacing. The weak point on the unit is the flap and crank lever which is made of plastic and gets brittle over time, shatters and gets sucked into your engine from the intake manifold along with the metal pin that holds the flap in place which can result in bent/damaged valves. The fix is to import a repair kit containing a metal flap, crank lever and a bolt which goes right through the flap from the bottom so there is no chance of it shattering and getting sucked into your engine. I have not seen these kits locally, hence you have to import it from eBay.

The unit for the M54B30 is different in size to the M54B25 so they are not interchangeable.

Also over time, the plastic crank lever gets worn and doesn't allow the valve to open and close as it should. This doesn't affect driveability, but does have an impact on performance to some extent.
