They have alos done a 840i, as well and a E36 M3 convertible. Pure Awesomeness.

Thanks, great post. All the usual E39 M5 trim maladies at silly prices. Must admit, have seen much more unloved examples than theirs. They were lucky, and what a cheap price. :thumbs:

So what about the xenon headlights, I thought they came std on the M5. Ed fitted halogens in their place? Kinda going backwards don't you think?
I guess the car's extra 30hp was from a chip which removed the speed limiter as they were able to do 170mph.

UK spec cars differ from ours?

Also, the plug leads (for high and low beams) were identical from the old cluster to the new cluster, pretty sure that means they were halogens to begin with.

Halogens and xenons use the exact same plug, there is no difference.

They were xenons to begin with - but apparently the Angel eye units have an HID kit. There's lots of stuff they don't show in the program -eg they changed both air filters and not just the one. Mike clarified a lot of stuff on Twitter.

Minus points for them not knowing that shadow chrome is the stock M5 rim colour. But the show definitely highlights that our used car market, especially for //M cars is artificially high. Then again, they have a much bigger stock of cars to choose from, a hideously high fuel price means a 5.0 V8 isn't going to fetch much money, and a 5000 pound M5 will be a ropey thing anyway. Browsing Pistonheads, most of the ones available for that money have been to the moon and back, or have fallen under disreputable owners.

There is a fair bit of controversy over the 205 GTI they did in an earlier season, apparently the guy who bought it found a crack in the engine block. I cant find the thread on the 205gtidrivers forum though.
