Hi guys

I would like to know how to get the flaps of the exhaust open before starting the car.....so that when I start the car it will be loud or is they a way to have the flaps open permanently.

Many thanks and much appreciated

Ebrahim,

As far as i know most people do what they call a "Golf Tee Mod", which is basically a piece of wire tied to the exhaust actuator to keep it open all the time. I'm not sure what the implications are of doing this. (Whether it would damage the actuator or not)

Heres a link for a thread discussing the mod:

Why? They open on cold start adjust anyway.
If you put the Engine/Throttle into Sport or Short Plus, they open as well.

This... mine are always open on startup. They also open in Sport Plus once up to temp. Golf Tee mod was for M3s IIRC

Stolen quote:

"For instance, if you select the COMFORT mode, the exhaust valves are fully closed in the lower revs ranges. If there is a greater load demand at higher engine speeds, they open up. When driving with a constant load in COMFORT mode, the valves generally remain closed to achieve a maximum level of everyday comfort over long distances.

In SPORT and SPORT PLUS modes, other engine characteristics are selected for controlling the exhaust valves. At lower gears, the exhaust valves are always open, while when higher gears are selected under constant driving conditions, they are closed; however, if the load conditions change accordingly, they open up in a flash. There are also ranges in which we have chosen to close the valves, for instance at low engine speeds in high gears. In these ranges, which are frequently selected in the automatic mode of the M DKG Drivelogic for driving at maximum efficiency, the exhaust tract in turbo engines would have a tendency to drone if there were no damping.

Ebrahim if you want it open all the time the best thing to do.is pull out the two fuses that control those valves. I know the fuse numbers for the m3 but I can't remember the numbers for the m5.
Try and Google it or search it on bimmerpost.
Just remember they are in the open position before u pull them out
Good luck Bru.

I don't think this is a good idea Ebrahim. [FACE WITH TEARS OF JOY], you are better changing the exhaust system then. You will damage the exhaust actuator by tieing wire to it.
