M43TU (e46 318i) oil pressure issues

car had bearing knock. had crankshaft filled up, installed new bearings and new oem oil pump gear set but to my disappointment the engine doesn't built up pressure:argh:

the problem with this oil pump is that it is part of the front engine housing and bmw wants R5000+ for it and im very hesitant to spend such amounts of money without even being sure that it will solve the problem.

what else can cause this?

Who rebuilt the motor for you? The M42/43/44 oil pump is very simple, can't see why it would fail. I highly doubt its the issue, incorrectly putting the engine back together would be your best bet, something is missing...

Part number 5 is a possible cause.

Gizmo, those were my exact thoughts when I saw the pump. its basically part of an aluminium engine housing with two rotating gear sprockets. I ended up buying those two gear sprockets from the dealership (R800) but the problem still persisted. I flushed down R800 basically. but you know how desparate times are, there was physically absolutely nothing wrong with those two gear but was persuaded by my mechanic to throw the dice and buy new ones anyway.... I lost.

at first, just a few km's after the motor assembled, the pressure light would only come on at idle, but roughly after 18km of driving, the light decided to come permanently on. that's when I towed it back home to avoid doom and gloom.

Yeah part number 5 would be your best bet, did you strip and inspect it before you re-assembled the motor? Those oil pump gears never go bad, they bulletproof unless metal shavings are making their rounds through the motor.
