m42 or a m44 engine

Greetings.
I have recently run a bearing in my lotus 7 .
I have a m42 motor from a e36 shape 318is .
It makes awesome power for my 7 , but alas i managed to run a bearing.
I think it ran lean while cornering from fuel surge , or the fact that i dropped a gear and revved to 8000rpm :( may have caused some issues.
Well i now have to either fix or buy another motor.
so any ideas on where i can source a m42 or id love an m44 motor?
Or how cost effective is it to rebuild .
cheers L

You can probably pick up a second hand motor for between 8 to 10k. Condition unknown, or you can rebuild entirely. I did that on my m42. Cost was around 20k.

MMM .
20k did you do any upgrades and porting/ flowing etc?

I guess only way to check for damage will be to open up and have a look see .

I will hopefully track gizmo down and ask him on stock availability.

How different are the m44 motors to the m42 ? .

I didn't do any upgrades or mods. The M44 motor was a 1.9l as far as I know, and had a bit more torque. I think the max torque came in at different rpm as well.
KW output was the same.
