M4 Vs. F Type

Yeah, the previous generations had rawness and ferocity built into them, e.g. the metallic raspy shriek and high revving nature of the E46 M3, the ability of the e92 v8 to rev forever. There was always something special about a M, but as the years have gone by the whole experience has become diluted on the m3/4, even power delivery in many reviews state, is smooth and refined, as a mass flood of speed, rather than spine tingling.

Make no mistake the latest M3/4 eclipses all other versions, engineering and performance wise, and is a fantastic piece of engineering but the quest for perfection has been, imho, at the expense of visceral and aural excitement.

Same here, F-Type.....head says M4 but heart says F-Type.

The M4 sounds like a GTi in comparison to the F-Type in that video.

I think BMW have gone too far with the new M4. Its like the past designers of M3 where fully blown mad car enthusiasts first. These days its all about compromised engineering, like the engineering decisions are being made by eco-friendly greenies, e.g. we have to make reach this level of fuel efficiency so the exhaust cant be too loud. It's a performance vehicle so why should it be compromised? I wish it was uncompromising like the F-Type, engineered to look, sound and drive like a sports car. BMW may have engineered a better car over the E9x M3, but it is not necessarily the more exciting car to drive.

In fact the exhaust note of the F-Type reminds me of racing cars I used to see at hill climb events. The overrun is simply amazing.
I drove the m4... My heart doesn't ache for one... Your post sums it for me... Nice car but it just doesn't grab your heart... The jag is nice almost bought an s type convertible recently... Sounds nice with the exhaust option... But doesn't feel all that special tbh.. Its a jag... New cars of today I dunno... All these new cars today start as commercial projects to extract the most profit out of us consumers... M4 imo is a lazy designed car, taking design cues from other models in the range.... The engine is not entirely new... All in the name of cost reduction... R and d is expensive...
Well my m4 comes next week... And I ain't all that excited...

All the previous m cars I bought I was excited like a school boy in a strip joint
