M3 has a new friend.

I give you the newest addition to the fleet.

Tired of the endless damage to the M3 and my wallet due to the roads. Took it out the weekend to a friends kids bday and whallop timber in the road, exhaust much louder and its causing a vibration somewhere, dunno what this will cost.

So now the higher, softer, slower, more economical and much cheaper 320i.

look yey economical running

Interior was/is really filthy.

Before

After 10min with some warm soapy water with a slight buff from meguiars leather conditioner. Will give it one more clean in a week and then leave it, i suspect any more rubbing might start to remove the sealant/stain.

I would post a pic of the pristine white towel i used but i might get banned for posting such a disgusting thing.

Car was under mplan up to 125 000km.

List of invoices that came with it.

New tyres = 22/10/2007 (still on the rear), 2012/03/10 (still on the front)
Services at 136930km(2008), 149416km (2011), 166556km (2014 as in last week).
Wheel alignments yearly.
Invoices for Brakes,Vbelts, Window regulators & lifters, wipers, anti rollbar bushes and a few other randoms. So the history is well documented.

Issues with it.

Little rust spot on the A pillar, bit of a knock from the rear when changing gear, overly stiff (to my weak ass fly by wire foot) throttle cable, and a engine that is to my mind to quite, this rivals a lexus is200 for silence, and a sagging roof liner. Oil pressure warning was also triggering after startup and going away couple of secs later. Had a look at the dipstick and it seemed full, added a quart of Magnatec Prof 5-30 for in case and it seems silent now. Will monitor the situation on that front.

On a more slightly pissed off matter, car was at a big renowned bmw dealer in PTA last week for its service, and what did i spot/get told at the roadworthy today... Oil leak and thum da da da, red silicone at the sump plug.

And now Peter if you would please remove that needle from the voodoo doll you made of me for driving the M3 on gravel roads, i herniated a disk on the lower back. Promise the M3 will never ever ever leave tarmac again.

Im jealous of your fuel consumption. Nice!!

I also did the same exercise once. Was tired of running the M6 on daily trips so i decided to buy a neat 325i E36 to have some fun in. Found a red one, did a major service, sorted odds and ends, did the exhaust and got a set of rims. Was happy.. then I decided to get an M3 steering for it since the one in the 325i was worn. Long story short... I went out to pickup the M3 steering i found advertised online ... ended up driving home in a track ready Supercharged M3.

Sold the 325i a few days later.

Back to square one.

Haha.

Oh trust me. I want to fit the flat spoke 7's from the 325ti, and the 4spoke MFS but promised myself this car will just get maintained well. Next years Academics will set me back atleast 30k ,and it will be a 2/3 year course so that will end up being a 100K., plus it's starting to dawn on me i might have to leave SA in the next couple of years. Time to settle debt and increase my savings. No more wastefull car trinkets.

Got the F30 320i for daily...promised not to touch her, would leave std......that lasted 3months. Sooooooo good luck in behaving

Good buy

Rear knocking might be from the subframe which is prone to failure on the pre lci E46, that's just the worst case scenario as it may be suspension related.

Happy KMs

MTech II when you start modding :fencelook:

320i does not have the power to break anything on the subframe and rust should not be of concern. When standing still engine on (or off not tested that), gearbox in neutral select first and it sounds like you have a transaxle due to the location of the clunk. Oh well when it goes to my mechi to get the oil leak checked i will ask. Will be changing the FCAB and RTAB's simply as a precaution since they are still factory fit.

Congrats! Like minded fanatics ftw... also just stopped dailying my 46 Cabrio after 2 years. 05 Polo Sedan for work and back for me. Forgot what it feels like to fill petrol once a month. Same vibe different person. Tops. Many happy miles bru

On 2 of my pre facelift E46's I had the differential mounting (bush) replaced, and it solved the sound at the rear when changing gears

One of these?

My oldest and slowest of the fleet and probably most loved. Refuse to sell the old war pig. To put it right will cost more than it's worth but who needs opening rear doors or a uncracked dashboard. Has seen me though 10 years and 250 000km, never ever stopped running, even if it spat out one of it's sparkplugs it just kept on chugging on 3, and when 4th gear ate itself it still managed 300km back home, when i smacked something on the N1 at 190 it still made it home. Many a mile and memory with that one. I will probably cry the day it no longer has any fight left.

What still amazes me is i would not be able to buy any 9N 1.6 Polo let alone with this kind of millage or condition as what i paid for the 320.

Was the wifes old car but she got e90 320i SP Indv now but she still misses the Polo which im enjoying nw.
