m3 e36 s50b30 Misfire on #5 #6

Yes, replaced 5 & 6 with coils from my dad's car. Also swapped coil 4 & 6 with no change. Am I correct in saying that as Moranor said a wet test would indicate that the head gasket might be fine but then it could only be piston rings or valves that cause compression loss. As born2boost said earlier in this thread the gasket could be blown between the cylinders causing compression sharing. I hope its only the gasket and the internals are still ok I didn't budget for a rebuild

i think born2boost nailed this one... wet test is probably pointless what are the chances of it not being the gasket if both cyl have no compression...

there was one code voltage supply to control unit but was solved after it was cleared. I may still have a problem with my cps but it wouldn't cause the low comression reading on 5 & 6.

If its blown between the cylinders...chances are you will only need a new gasket. Nothing else....This, if the car never overheated.

Obviously the head and surface of the block must be inspected anyway before reassembling.

Thanx dude, it was the head gasket only. My dad and I did all the work ourselves. PO installed a no name cheap gasket thats probably why it burned through between 5 & 6. I replaced it with a Victor Reinz this time. Fired her up last night and misfire is gone.:joy:

Had the same problem once. Also gives you chance to have a look at cylinder wear and clean some intake parts.
