M235I Drivetrain Warning

Hi All,

I'm new to BMWFanatics so i don't know if this might have been discussed before.
I have a 2014 M235I (F22) 60 000km. I just had Full exhaust system, intake system and JB4 stage 2 done. Now when sitting on the highway at any given speed and then accelerating hard the Drivetrain Warning comes on. Doesn't look like the guys from Sinister know what causes this. Any suggestions ? Where can I take the car to have this sorted ?

If your tuner cannot help, maybe consult one of the forum tuners.

I assume the car is under MP.

If no one can help, remove the mods and take it through to BMW, hopefully they don't pick up that the car has been modded

Check all connections from the JB4 to sensors on the car.
Also, is your JB4 hooked up via USB? Because the JB4 can read codes and tell you what fault is being throw as soon as it happens - while you are there, also check what firmware is loaded and update if need be.
If your "tuner" cant tell you what the problem is, I suggest you start by dumping said "tuner"

Agree with Riyo - may be in need of a firmware update. Usually the drivetrain error is thrown when the JB pushes the car to limp as a safety.

Which map are you running? Could possibly be that your map is too aggressive for the mods/fuel you're running.

I concur... tuner should be able to tell you and not leave you out to dry. Sinister is Stealth so I'd have thought there would be good support.

Please make 10000% sure that everything is removed from your car if you take it in to BMW... But if it only does this with the JB4 then that won't help

What fuel are you using and what boost are you running... could be running out of injector capacity at higher RPMs and at risk of running lean? Also, you could be overboosting if you are in a high gear, low-ish RPM and high throttle opening (tuner could correct me here on whether this happens with the platform and JB4).

I've seen this before on a M135i, not sure what the problem is. Car also has jb4 and dp.

Sometimes it's perfectly fine, and sometimes the error.

Its most likely caused by the jb4, the error goes away after a restart.

On MAP 2, so all should be ok

Yeah the guys from Sinister is very helpful they just cant say of hand what the problem might be, will have to take the car back to the tuner and see if they actually see something. Thanks for all the replies.

It is exactly that low rpm and high gear that it happens, when sprinting from robot to robot it doesn't happen.

Planting at low RPM without gearing down on any turbo car has a similar effect... Many other brands break because of this if there are no safeties built in. Your boost increases as a function of load. In a high gear at low RPM, wide open throttle will result in a high load scenario. You are effectively not in the correct gear for that scenario. Again, tuners correct me if I'm wrong.
