m20 in e30 318i

yes it will fit, I think the only modification are at the prop side of things.
there will be more to be taken from the 6cylinder car like brakes and suspension as the 328 has drums and the front suspension is different to compensate for the 6.
but most people will tell you stay away from the M20B20. its heavy on juice and slow as hell. there is also not much to be done with the engine to change this. there is very little increase in power from your 1.8 and the difference in fuel economy is just not worth it.

@Psymon Thanks , the problem is the 318i needs ring gear , afm , and a few other items , so I said the guy can use the m20b20 as it is complete .
I have a m20b25 ,but am looking for a body for it .
As the e36 325i is being pensioned off due to rusting away , the M50 ( with a m52 crank ) may replace the m20b20 in about a year . A certain M60 engined car has adjusted my plans !!!

the ONLY thing a M20B20 is good for is a really big turbo ..

@Clutchy there is an e30 with a mazda 16 valve turbo going to be up for sale soon R 35K or so .......:thumbs::thumbs:
I must look at a e30 body next week , so I do not want to give away the m20b25 as yet .
The guy with the 318i is an appy so the m20b20 route is the most cost effective for him now .

I see his dilemma... its not a nice one to be in. maybe look at another engine if its in the budget, maybe M42? 318is. ive heard very good things. otherwise if its not going to be too much costs on labour then go for it. the E30club should have a few guys that has done this.
the M50 is an awesome motor in these cars, you can always pass it on here if you not using it:rollsmile:
