Hi Guys

Sandton Auto says my car is due for a major service on board computer says oil change due. Car is on 55000km

So wanted to know if its actually a oil top up or a oil change ? If it is a oil change what price I am a looking at ?

And how many litres of oil does the engine take ?

Thanks

John from Leo Hease Pretoria is offering an oil service for R1 200 with parts and labor. I'm assuming the car is out of Motor plan

The engine should take 6.5 liters.

Then there is nothing to worry about.

BMW will cover the service.

You do pay for oil - outside of service intervals. Some dealers even top up for free.

Im with you, you pay for top ups. only if its before your cars first service
i just topped up my car this past week and they charged me

that is normally what they do, oil warning come up, send it to the dealer to fix the issue. If fixing that means oil top up, then top up and MP will pay :tiptoe:

My car showed it needed a top up. Went to the nearest dealer which was midrand at the time. Plugged it onto the machine, topped it up for free and i was on my way again

The dealer did say if they note down the top ups and after a while they see its using more than it should they book it in to investigate. If you walk in and say that you have been topping up yourself and its using lots of oil its your word agaisnt theres and its a longer process to prove high oil usage.

Ok this is a genuine question from me about these oil top ups.
Why are you guys doing top ups on your cars engine oil? I have never done a top up ever on any of my cars , even the ones that are out of motor-plan , even when they were on motor-plan , When ever I check the oil gauge its always at the proper level .

Do some engines eat oil? or burn them ? Always thought if you have to do a top up then the oils going somewhere it should not go or theres a leak .

@ Quick///M If your cars undermotorplan , you have nothing to worry about , its all free :) Even if it needs repairs.

Glad to hear all is good!

Mine usually needs a top up once a year, one time it happened on the open road in the middle of nowhere.. Managed to find a garage that had the correct oil, added 1l and when the car got back to JHB I booked it for an oil swop.. Again no issues..

I have also seen it depends on how hard you drive the car.. Then it needs oil.

Ive had to top up 3 times i think, once in ballito, and twice in boksburg
but they dont charge for oil changes.
