Hi Guys

so i've had my 1M for about 2months now and ive been itching to race an e92 m3 or m135. last night i decided to go to drags and managed to get 2 runs with a m135 with exhaust, not sure if it had anything else... 1st run traction completely off, handbreak up, launched it between 1000 nd 1300 rpm. out launched him and he pretty much stayed by my door the whole way till 4th gear.. but heres the thing, in mid 4th he slowly creeped pass me and i ended up by his door. 2nd run out launched him even better and he tapped off.

Same m135 raced a stock m135 and left it about a car length from the line..lol ive also seen a video of the same m135 giving a c63 a hiding.
the car is strong and sounds amazing. i just wanted to knw if a m135 with just exhaust can pass me like that in 4th???:thumbdo:

I assume your 1M is stock?

And the only mod the M135i had was the exhaust? No JB4 etc? And was it manual or auto?

Was it by any chance a blue M135i?? If it is, that car does not only have an exhaust. If im not mistaken it has the BMW performance exhaust and AC Schnitzer chip.

Floyd, you'll probably find yourself faster than a stock e92 up at the reef from the line. A well driven e46 M3 will beat an e92 up here. I've seen it happen. I myself did it when my e46 M3 was still Naturally Aspirated. Unfortunately, the v8 M3's are asthmatic at this altitude and only really start to perform higher up in the gears and rev range once the car is moving. Off the line they tend to suffer. Shit, my supercharged 323i used to stick with them till 4th gear.

At the coast, a different beast. Remember, they lose 18% of their power up here. That makes them only 250+kw on the engine and very little torque compared to your 1m which is lighter and will also adjust boost levels to compensate for altitude difference.

So... a true reflection would be to go down to Durban or Cape Town and race one there. Beating one up here isn't really much to go celebrate. You're not actually racing the true car BMW built.

My car with just DP makes a huge difference on my M135i.

With JB4 and intake it was a beast. But too much for the car IMHO.

Its super smooth now with out the JB4 etc.... Still pulls strong.

Blacked out badge? That's like an extra 10KW and 18NM. Will be interesting to see how far from stock that M135 with only the exhaust really was after this run.

Yes!! That's the same car I'm talking about. That car is from Lenz and is always at the drags. That car is modded properly so you should not feel bad about the result

but the e46 is also naturally aspirated if im not mistaken, so it also loses some power up here. so if both e46 nd e92 are losing power up here how can a 46 beat a 92?. lets say they both well driven?

Simple. Because Crash has an E46 :roflol:

When you say too much, you mean too much for the car to handle every day or too much power and you may kill yourself ?

e46 has different gearing, and is lighter, so it doesn't need as much power. Probably why most people feel the e46 was more of a RAW car compared to the refined e92. The v8 takes a harder knock with the altitude. Can't really explain it more than that. Only at higher gears / speeds does the e92 perform like a beast up at the reef.

At the coast, the e92 power to weight ration is 0.11, and the e46 m3 is 0.10. Not much difference but still enough so that with better gearing, the e92 pulls away at higher gears.

At the reef, that power to weight ratio becomes 0.09 for the e92 and guess what, 0.09 for the e46 M3. The e46 with its better low down acceleration, will pull away at first and may be able to hold off the bigger V8. But this is stock for stock, and not many guys that like racing run 100% stock cars. So anything is possible man.

When it comes to volumetric efficiency (how well the engine works with available air), it seems the e46 M3 is not as badly affected by it.

Read this thread on M3 forum from a Johannesburg M3 driver and his disappointment in the e92's performance at altitude -- http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=90365

Take my word for it, or not, but I've raced e92's up here, not a fair example from the stop light. Try race one either at the coast, or during a rolling run from say 120kph.
