I gotta agree with everything that's been said above and add where my logic came in with the build. Too many people add power without uprating chassis and brakes and those are actually the 2 area where a stock BMW suffers compared to a stock Subaru or Porker (although admittedly the porsche is a "tad" more costly !!)
The upgrades I've done to these areas were all done before I touched power and they are nothing short of a complete overhaul. I changed suspension, suspension mounting points, control arms, camber plates, strut braces, ALL bushings and linkages, front arm seatings, lines (brake and clutch). plus uprated clutch kit, gears, brakes, pads and discs. From the chassis down there is almost nothing besides the driveshafts which is OEM any more.....
Also... Zaid and I have painstakingly tuned the chassis to give maximum balance between road hollding and comfort. I don't WANT a scary ride, and often the super stiff suspension of prokers and Subarus actually give a greater perception of speed and induce fear which I don't like. Jezzy has been setup to communicate to me so that I always 100% aware of her limits.
To give you some idea of the time I spend on the chassis tuning.. I have had the wheels re-alligned with different camber ratios 3 times in the last 2 weeks and have tested 2.5bar/2.5 bar; 2.5bar/2,6bar; 2.5bar;2.7bar in EACH of the settings. I literally change camber setup, set tires, drive 100 kays over mountains.. then head back and check and change pressures again...
Thats 9 different combos of camber and tire pressure I've tested since the last week of August!!!!!
I don't pretend to be the fastest of drivers but I can honestly tell you that when she is perfectly blanced, my nerve gives out before I reach the limit of her handling... the cornering she handles is just stupid... I did a hot run up the glen yesterday and was hitting over 100km/h round some of those hairpin bends without tire squeal or sliding....
I may not be able to SCARE liqui fruit... but I can certainly change your view of how much tires can grib
