Hey there
just did not like a GTI and Scuby doo to be thrown in the potjie as comparison to an M car...please man.
Comparing Matt's car to a GTI is a very fair comparison and is in fact a compliment. What I am saying is that Matt was concerned that the ride in his car was too hard. I said it was no worse than GTI standard which means its actually rather good. If Matt hadnt told me he was running aftermarket suspension I would never have known.
And when you consider that Subaru's have some of the best chassis and road holding available in the stock car market I think it is also fair to compare it to a BMW which is one of the WRX STI's direct rivals.
Eish man 3.9sec in the 0 - 100 dash is no longer a goal sorry,...and I don't have to go to Porsche or scuby for a 300kw odd car...i drive one daily and it is a bmw with stock wheels!!!!Thumbsup2
Firstly it is a goal... The new 998 Turbo has a new engine, uprated twin turbo's and is unable to beat a 3.9 seconds 0-100 of its older brother from 2005. 3.7 Seconds is the fastest Porsche available which is the Turbo S. The new Audi R8 V10 manages a 3.9 which knowing Audi is probably a 4.1 or 4 as they tend to over rate the R8.
Gallardo, AMG etc etc are all at the 4 second post and struggling to go any faster.
I dont care if a car has 900kw... Or 147kw. Its how it uses that power. The V10 R8 is German Engineering at its best and it just manages a 3.9 second sprint. Whereas the Porsche is a flat 6 with twin turbo's and it did it with absolute ease 9 years ago. The R8 has almost 100kw more! There are a huge amount of BMW's that can put out close to 300 or more kw as seen at Veemax.. But the
stock chassis will never handle as well as a factory Subi or Porsche which is
designed to use and control that sort of power.
Without suspension modifications, superchargers, remaps and hardware changes in a stock BMW you will never get the same performance... That to me is what makes a car fast. The fact that you can buy it from the factory and not have to alter it in any way.
I appreciate you have a very fast car. But in my opinion it isnt in the same class (read that as category) of that of a supercar. When BMW
produces (Concept cars mean nothing) a
stock supercar that will eat Porsche and Audi (The 2 biggest players in the supercar segment at the moment, BMW is nowhere to been seen. Even an underpowered Jag XF is voted higher than a M5) then I will gladly take back what I have said.
Matt's car is brilliant for what it is. As I have said... Its a different beast to anything around it because it is rare and is extremely powerful for a M3. I like it for what it is.
